I have a 2560x1440 60hz monitor and I'm running xfire 7970s and average between 90-130+ fps. Is there any benefit from going over 60 fps on a 60hz monitor while gaming? Reason I ask is I've been thinking of 86'ing the 7970s for one Titan. While I know the Titan will give me less fps, I should be getting at least 60 fps with maxed settings in BF3?

On a 60hz screen, other than when running benchmarks, the FPS don't make a hill of beans cause all you're getting in terms of output is 60 FPS. Hence why screen tearing occurs.
It's the situation I was in...1440p@60hz or 1080p@120hz. Sucks that there still aren't 1440p@120hz native but companies don't really have much incentive to roll those out rapidly.

It all depends on the response time of your monitor  If you have a blazing fast responce TN panel, then higher framerates -DO- provide a substantial advantage in FPS games and screen tearing is non existent as long as you have the video horsepower. Higher framerates mean you make the server poll before the other guy everytime  Keep the SLI and dont use vsync for BF3

I can get 60fps with maxed settings on my gtx690, so I would guess the Titan would???
My monitor will do 120hz, but I can only manage 100fps solid in BF3 & Crysis3. So I run at 100hz and lock my framerate.

Some of those 2560X1440 monitors are OCed to 90-110Hz. You just have to get a good one. Going above 60 FPS is pretty much only beneficial if you notice the difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz. some people say that you can't tell the difference but I can (and a good amount of other people can too).

One benefit I almost never see mentioned is the one that makes one of the biggest differences for me.
Mouse input latency is drastically reduced.
Due to how games poll for mouse input when the framebuffer clears, there is so many more opportunities for this to happen with a 120Hz monitor, even with vsync, so there is much reduced latency your mouse.
It's low enough that I notice it and hate 60Hz monitors now for gaming. I could never use one again.

I can tell the dif and its def worth it if you can actually tell the dif. Not sure how it works if your only pushing sub 120 fps tho on a pc....

Even if you don't push more than 60 FPS, the extra refreshrate still helps the mouse input. It's awesome. :D When I go back and use a 60Hz monitor it feels like I'm dragging my mouse around with a loose elastic band instead of having it in my hand.

+1...and I do the same here. I use 100hz on my monitor, but I use adaptive vsync in all my games and they really look nice and play very smooth. The only time I use 120hz is if I'm playing in 3D which is only on occasion.

May as well run the screen at 120Hz, not that it's going to make that much of a difference, but the more refreshes your screen does, the more chances for the framebuffer to draw !

In addition if you are in sync at 60Hz you hardware will run cooler because it will not try to pump out as many frames as it can. This relates into cooler gaming area which is important (at least to me) during summer months and you might even keep your sanity by not listening to loud fans.
However, once you do 120Hz monitor you will not want to game on anything else.

That's still a very good monitor you have. A little pricey for my taste but with not a lot of 1440p@27" options it's supply and demand. And just personally I like my monitor to last more than a few years, and thus I'm not sure how much OCing an Overlord or Yamakasi Catleap cuts into the lifespan but that's always something to keep in mind too.
