Ok, so this is another headphone recommendation thread, but with a slight twist.  I am only willing to consider 3 brands of headphones because I get employee discount on them.  These three brands are as follows
JBL
AKG
Harman/Kardon

Please give me your best recommendations regardless of price because, like I said, I get these at employee pricing.

EVGA DG-77/ EVGA 750 G2/ Gigabyte B450/ AMD Ryzen 5 3600/ 16gb Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600/ RTX-2080 XC/ Dell S2716DG / Windows 11 64

IMO there is a really good deal for AFG at mass drop right now and I suggest you check it out.

It is essentially an AKG K702 65th anniversary edition(it uses the same drivers) and it only cost $200 (it is usually selling for $350+)

I was looking at these.  http://www.harmanaudio.com/akg/K+272.html?dwvar_K%20272_color=Black#start=15  I can get them for a really good price.  So good, I can't post it here.  What do you think of these?

First of all what kind of source do you have? it is plugged in to a proper amp or just directly in to the computer or device?

as a general rule of thumb, open cans generally sound better than closed ones though closed headphones atleast most have better and deeper bass.

Have you considered Philips Fidelio X1?

edit: As for the AKG K272, I heard that they are pretty easy to drive so you won't probably need an AMP. People from Head-fi also say that the AKG K272 has a pretty good sound.

Keep in mind though that closed headphones can become really hot on extended period of time usage and is generally more fatiguing. The AKG K272 also doesn't have a detachable cable which means if the cable goes bad (which happens usually) your out of luck.

My source is that I am and employee of AMX which was recently purchased by Harman, therefore I am a Harman employee and get employee pricing on all Harman products.  I would most likely use these when at work plugged into an AudioQuest Dragonfly USB DAC.  The dragonfly can output up to 2v of power.  I can also use the Dragonfly with my Galaxy S5 with a micro USB to USB adapter.

If you could get the AKG K272 for under $200 and you have no problems with closed headphone then get it, otherwise the AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition is pretty much a no brainer for $200 atm as it is using a much much more superior driver and better comfort than what is available at the harman website.

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition is limited to 2000 stock and they currently sold 1742 and the offer would end in 6 days so you better make up your mind as the equivalent product from AKG (K702 65th anniversary edition)cost about $500

Yeah, it's far below $200.  Like I said, I don't think I can post my cost on that because it would just make everyone cry.

At the end of the day, just get what the headphone that would make you happy.

Personally I would go for the AKG K7XX as it has better features and I can't stand using closed headphone for extended period of time.

That being said, AKG K272 isn't a bad product at all. In fact a lot of people are recommending it over headfi.

You said you work at harman, have you tried actually testing the headphones if they have some on display? That would be the better way instead of just relying on other people's opinion as different headphone has different sound signature and fit.

I work for AMX which is a Harman brand, but I don't have any access to test the headphones.  Also, I can only purchase online from the employee store, and not all products are available at any given time.  Basically, the inventory is constantly changing based on overproduction or end of life.

Well, the K 272's you linked are currently on sale for $142.95 at Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/AKG-272-HD-High-Definition-Headphones/dp/B0012XZAXG/, so I'd hope it's even less than that.

I currently have a pair of  K702 Annies, and love the sound on them.  Completely open, and sound bleeds like crazy, but they have a massive soundstage due to the openness.  Music sounds great on them, and they are my default gaming headphones.  Very comfortable for people with bigger heads, but smaller heads might need to be creative with them.

The Q701 QJ's are also very good headphones.  They tend to be very similar to the 702 Annie's, IIRC, except the Annie's have a much better headband, which also helps with the sound.

Open or closed headphones?  What will you be using them for?  The K7xx as I mentioned is the K702 65th Anniversary Edition, maybe with slight differences (we'll find out soon).  Great deal but you'd have to wait until February to get them.

If you want to spend a bit more, there is the K712 though I assume it strongly benefits from amplification.  Even the Q701 is supposed to.
