Brocasta tomco ??? What is that and why those 2 DVI-D plugs? Socket 2011 has no GPU embeded ... They're probably serial ports. ....also features two SAS 6Gbps ports placed right near the board's left margin

Same layout as x58 4-way but with 2011 socket = my next mobo :) If I could make *ONE* change to the 4-way board, it'd be the addition of a PCI-E x1 slot or 2 just above the main PCI-E slots. It seems such a waste to leave those 2 spots empty! I can understand why it was done on the X58 (NF200 getting in the way) but hopefully with socket 2011 it should be possible, maybe? But yeah... good to hear evga are making a 4-way capable board! 4-way with seperate cards is still the best enthusiast choice for high end gaming/benching. The 590 is just too gimped...

there wont be any NF200 chips on X79 boards, unless of course they work with PCIe3 (i doubt it) PCIe3 is double the bandwidth of 2 there should be no need for extra nvidia chips

nVidia could always do what AMD does and use the PLX switch chip on their dual GPU cards. The nForce 200 was left over from when nVidia made their own chipsets. Now that they have stopped their chipset business, it would not make sense to invest in something so minor.

There you go. But that's not an X79 chipset (for i7 3xx0's), it is a C600 chipset (for Xeon E5-16x0). I'll admit I do not know if i7's are compatible in that socket. Like I mentioned elsewhere, even X58 held single-QPI Xeons, Intel is doing something different here. Yes, there are serial ports, this is a WS board. Funnily enough, it almost looks like EVGA's sneak picture had space for an additional four DIMMs on either side, I wonder why other than i7 limitations.

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious when a while back all the rage was about some company had released "low profile ram" I mean really come on there was a time that no ram came with heat spreaders, much less these gargantuan ones they come with now.

Well I guess I can hold off on buying the SR-2, although my guess is this board will be in the $5++ range not to mention the processors, will the 2011 only be for xeon or will we have normal desktop processors compatible. similar to the I7 1366 and the xeon 1366 sockets.

now the SR-2 what is its main purpose, was far as performance gaming/Engineering software(im a mechanical engineer)/server/folding. what was it designed to do and what is it good at.

The main attraction is that it is the only modern dual socket board that you can overclock. It also supports 4 way SLI and crossfire. Most people use them at least part time for folding, but they are obviously very capable in every other respect.

"At this year's Computex event, we were treated to socket LGA2011 motherboards by various motherboard manufacturers, except EVGA. The company makes some of the highest grade enthusiast motherboards in the Intel platform, and so it was missed. It is however, said to be working on a monstrous dual-socket LGA2011 motherboard based on the Intel X79 chipset, that would replace its dual-socket LGA1366 EVGA SR-2.
Just imagine, such a monstrosity would combine two six/eight/twelve-core LGA2011 Sandy Bridge-E processors with eight channels of DDR3 memory, and four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (electrical x16) links to drive its graphics cards and connectivity. EVGA said that it will have single-socket LGA2011 motherboards by the time the platform launches, and this dual-LGA2011 about a month later." its already been said, SR-3 or whatever the incarnation is, is being worked on. im saving already.

looks like I need to start saving more. depending on price I will get single X79, otherwise I will probably wait for Dual skt 2011 SR3 variant. Most likely I will just wait for dual skt. going to have to jump on more of these cheap ddr3 deals as well while prices are still low
