Jacob can you post a picture of the whole board?

Jacob can only post what he can. Good things come to those who wait.

Good god, don't even tempt them to pull another launch like that.

X79 has 40 PCI-E lanes so you can have x16/x16 for SLI. 3-way is x16/x16/x8.

Exactly, I have every plan to get a gigabyte UD7 at launch...know why...they will be available within 6 months after launch...come on evga almost every other company that HAS a board has shown at least a full image of it...what does that say about evga...they try to say that it is cause they are all working hard on it and too busy to post an image...sorry but I don't buy it, takes what 30-45 seconds to take a pic or two, and tell Shane to come get the memory card and put it up on the forums...if that 30-45 seconds of ONE persons time is going to be the difference between an awesome board and a crap one...Sorry I don't want it either way if its that close on quality.

What it more likely means is that they don't have any board ready...possibly even in shop working. Launch is supposedly little more than a month away and we still have no full images from EVGA...not really boding well at this point.

I didn't mean to cause a big ruckus over a pic of the full board, I just thought Jacob could post one since we are seeing full retail boxed boards from ASUS out in peoples hands through videos and pictures already.

Lol, your not causing a ruckus, evga is, your point is valid, other companies are showing full boards, in retail boxes and what has evga shown? Not even half a board.

People can say evga has been quiet about previous launches, but remember the dual chip card they released...not the 590, they showed it quite a while before it released with packaging papers, the works, but their motherboard...nothing more than a socket and some power plugs.

What site do we go to in order to start placing bets on when the evga board will release in reference to when the rest of the industry releases.

Asus hasn't officially shown anything but their baby poop brown boards at computex, so EVGA still has a partner in procrastination. They can't hold out for much longer, assuming this platform launches on time.

how about an ASROCK X79 preview?
http://motherboardnews.com/2011/10/08/previewing-asrocks-upcoming-x79-extreme7-motherboard/

When it comes to the PCI slot layout we have five PCIe x16 slots and a single PCI slotAccording to VR-Zone, it is expect that at least four, if not all, of the PCIe slots are in-fact PCIe 3.0. Either way, 3-way SLI is supported by the X79 Extreme7. When it comes to on-board connectivity, we have a whopping eleven SATA ports, likely 6x SATA3 and 5x SATA2, 2x USB 3.0internal headers, 3x USB 2.0 internal headers as well as power/reset buttons complete with diagnostic LED’s.

  • ASUS ROG Series X79 motherboards will be priced higher than $350 USD in the states
  • ASUS will launch at least three X79 motherboard models on the Sandy Bridge-E launch date – Tuesday, November 15, 2011

If that ASRock board had 8 DIMMs, I would be more enthusiastic. The SATA situations looks encouraging, but I wonder how much of it is powered by the X79 chipset and not an external controller.

I don't get the 6 DIMM slots on the ASRock, SBE has a quad-channel controller so what are the extra 2 slots for?

ASRock opted for 6 instead of 8 DDR3 slots, ASRock explained that while the motherboard retains Quad Channel Interface supporting memory upto 2400Mhz+ the other extra slots would allow for extra memory capacity if needed.

Can three sticks of memory be used on both sides (total of 6) of the 8 memory slots boards and still run quad channel?

Im assuming it would go down to dual channel

you have 1 bank of quad channel - if you use the extra 2 channels you go down to dual chanel (3 banks) but get the added ram

I don't think you can mixmatch different channel types

I wish I could afford the 8GB ram sticks and put in a bank of 32GB
I'll wait till memory prices drop as the new memory sizes become normal
Im just hoping for more than two 6GB sata III connectors

I can buy a new board and CPU now. Just wait for reviews AMD FX and Sandy-E
after reading FX reviews...Im not so sure it's the best choice

but I'll give it a few weeks...after all I have til NOV 15 for Sandy-E

Intel plans to enable them with driver updates I think...once PCIE3.0 cards are out...

can't test when there are no cards

If they can design and fabricate the CPU to the point where PCIe 3 can be enabled by a "driver update," there's no reason why they can't release it with PCIe 3 enabled. I can't imagine that there's no PCIe 3 cards available for internal use.

I'm not sure whether Intel confirmed this but with what I've been reading, I'm pretty sure SB-E will NOT have PCI-e 3.0 support, although hardware-wise it is capable.

Update: After this piece went up, several credible sources confirmed that Sandy Bridge-E's PCIe actually is8 GT/s-capable; Intel just hasn't gone through the validation process yet. From what I'm told, there will be a second batch of processors in '12 that follows what we see at launch, and those will receive the official third-gen blessing. Until then, it'll have to be up to motherboard vendors to claim (or not) PCIe 3.0 compliance.

The problem is not that PCI Express 3.0 is not working, but Intel can't verify it to be compatible with coming PCI Express 3.0 expansion cards.

sounds like were stuck with pcie 2.0 until c2 stepping

Yep, that's the piece I read earlier today... No PCI-e 3.0 for SB-E.

It's basically because Intel is not exactly a bleeding edge company. Bleeding edge means more risk and in this case there is no PCI-e 3.0 market (no benefit). Intel is very conservative about incorporating new tech because they are 1) playing safe, 2) not intimidated by any competition.

Worth the wait, methinks. More time for EVGA to conjure up an SR-3....

+1, still waiting jacob, your honestly telling me you guys dont have 1-2 minutes to post a picture?

Ya know being secretive kinda goes out the door when the company itself actually posts a partial picture as opposed to letting it "leak," so what is the big deal with showing us the boar in whole?
