if not pics... at least some Dimensions and an approx release time (like DEC 15th? - 1 month after x79) some of us are waiting for them other particulars are not that important because it will be similar to what X79 Specs are suppose to be (which has been leaked already)

So why are the ram slots right where the fans go for the CPU cooler? For instance, the Corsair Dominator stuff, those tall heat fins and all. Looks sweet though.

Makes me wonder though how boards for AMD's Opteron 6100 were able to put all their DIMMs per CPU in one place, despite the Opteron 6100 having a 4 channel memory controller. ( http://www.tyan.com/produ..._amd_opteron_6100.aspx ) All those Tyan boards have memory/CPU in the same place.

quad ch memory with 4 slots. will there be boards with 8 slots? If we were to stock up on ram now, what would be the recommended speed to look for?

True, but I was just showing how quad channel memory has been put in one place by a set architecture. Granted, maybe the 1600MHz speeds Intel is using is the reason why more room is necessary.

If a vendor wanted to force all DIMMs on one side with LGA2011, they could, and it would add costs because Intel reference didn't do it. We can't compare AMD's LGA1944 with Intel's LGA2011 unless they had enough functionality to make them the same; for one LGA1944 boards still have an external PCIe controller (northbridge chipset). I laugh at the fact that Supermicro made this AMD board with a single LGA1944 quad-channel socket in a board smaller than Intel's X79 reference board, and possibly cheaper too. All DIMMs on one side has benefit in the server world, maybe Intel felt for the single-LGA2011 it wasn't a big deal, and hoenstly I don't think the precieved uproar will last. When X79 finally comes, any complaints will vanish behind all the cheerleading.

It's simple, the Intel CPU is designed to have the Memory come in at opposite sides. Putting them all on one side would introduce unbalanced latencies. It is truly a Dual Dual memory design. Engineered that way for a purpose, why not take full advantage of that in the Board layout design?

ive got my money in a shoebox, as soon as the preorder for the dual socket 2011 board is open, my money belongs to EVGA. im hoping it will be between $600 and $800, close to the SR-2 but of course a bit more due to the higher class features.

Any chance someone from EVGA can comment on the amount of SATA ports on upcoming X79 boards? I'm trying to plan on how many SSDs I can have in RAID 0. It sure would be helpful. I can get a good deal on some more of the same ones I have, but I don't want to go overboard if the board won't have enough ports. At first there was supposed to be support for 14 SATA ports with 10 of them being SATA3/SAS6 but now I hear there are only going to be 6 ports with only 2 of them being SATA3. Any kind of info on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's not like they can't add support for extra sata III with additional chips on the motherboard. I would like to see what the board looks like and what specs it will have. We are only 1 month away from Intel release...or at least from what we heard

Any kind of info on this topic would be appreciated. The early figures we've been readying is for the general Patsburg chipset, but X79 isn't the only variation of Patsburg, hence the confusing discrepency. The enthusiast version of the server chipset might not have as many available, on purpose. IMO, unless this deal on getting more SSD's ends soon, I suggest you wait for debut in the week of November 14th, we're looking at just over five weeks. That said, it is a sale such that you can't return for refund within 30 days?

I wouldn't want to run more than 2 SSDs (in RAID, anyway) on an integrated controller.

That said, it is a sale such that you can't return for refund within 30 days? Thanks for the info. I guess I figured high end enthusiast boards would use the most feature rich version of Patsburg, but you are likely right. I forgot about the server version. And as far as the SSDs they would be from someone I know who bought them and didn't use them and wants to sell them, and it's past the return date. So if I don't buy them someone else will. Brocasta I wouldn't want to run more than 2 SSDs (in RAID, anyway) on an integrated controller. I have been running 6 Intel X25-M SSDs in RAID 0 on my X58 system for over 2 years now and have had zero problems. I know I am limited by the controller to ~700mb but it's still fast and I have a lot of space. I am also running 4 Intel 320 SSDs on my P67 system and it is super fast, and again no problems at all. No to mention, I have servers for my important files, I keep nothing I can't afford to lose on these RAID 0 arrays. doorules And there are many like me who would fill out those 6 gb ports with 6 gb ssd's. I agree. I'll fill every port possible with SSDs!

ASUS covers AM3+ SLI capable mobo just fine with the Crosshair V IMHO. Just as Intel chipsets can be licensed for SLi use with NVIDIA partners, AMD chipsets can too. ASUS shows us that. I don't see it as a priority for EVGA though as Bulldozer has not proven itself yet. If the market is there we might see something plausibly though. NVIDIA just want to see that license money for SLI. Only question would be is it a profitable enough market for AM3+ and EVGA price points? If the potential sales are not there at the price points EVGA would set, you'll not see it IMHO. I don't envision too much of a run on $350 AM3+ mobos anytime soon.
