Hmm, 40 lanes in five slots makes x8 each.  Definitely 4-way x8 capable, but once 3.0 certifications comes through, then that becomes 4-way PCIe 3.0 x8 = x16 2.0.  Impressive, now what about the reference X79 or if a mATX is planned with two x16's and one x8?

hmmm, 4 way sli yes...wonder if this is the replacement for the 762, or if this is the new all around classified, this board takes a 9 slot case to fit...

Definitely dissappointed by the number of sata ports...6...really some manufactures are giving 14, and evga gives 6 on the classified.

Glad they put so many usb 3 ports on the back, and brought back the optical audio, along with keeping the dual gig nics.

Evga definitly out did gigabyte with the IO panel, but lost to them in power delivery, sata ports, 8 pin power connector placement.

Hmmmm, might have to go with gigabyte this round depending on price.

It's understandable that the Classified is a 10-slot giant but I really really hope the FTW version will be standard ATX. Otherwise, I'll look elsewhere to buy a good ATX board, because I know the regular SLI version will be pretty crippled especially in terms of power delivery circuitry...

The board looks great. I'm hoping with the slot configuration that it will be possible to run two GPUs at 16x and one at 8x.

Please read the X79 chipset specs. No more native SATA ports are provided than what you see on E779.

Crappy third-party-chip ports are crappy.

You should thank EVGA for saving you the trouble, and blame Intel for not adding more SATA channels in X79.

EVGA can add the ports, there is more than enough room on that board for non-native (intel) Sata ports!

"Crappy third-party-chip ports are crappy" <<< They're not all crappy and most of them are great for internal backup drives. I use the Marvell Sata ports on my ASUS MBs for 2 secondary backup drives and never had a problem. I use 8 now and actually have a need for more, 6 is not enough, especially when you run seperate drives for backup and gaming...

You have a link to this? I guess they updated something, I read the specs a while back, and there was DEFINITLEY support for MANY more than 6 ports. I know they have been having trouble with this chipset, but really, now they have to cut sata ports?

According to the latest info I could find, (and I may be looking in the wrong places) X79 supports 14 sata ports, 10 of which are sata 6gb

Sorry I dont have the link but yes, there was supposed to be an additional PCI-E x4 link to the southbridge which is what gave you the extra bandwidth for the extra ports. Even if you glued a bunch of extra sockets on  the board at this point there isnt enough bandwidth to run half a dozen ports at 6gb/s.

Re:An Upcoming EVGA Motherboard... 2011/10/19 16:48:45 (permalink)
The original Patsburg chipset can support much more that the version being branded "X79", but it is vendor perogative how many they want to enable and for which boards.  EVGA is certainly not going to give one board full capability unless they have no intents for other variants, i.e. something like SR-2.  They've already stated three SKU's of their X79 are coming, so some of you guys should hold your horses and calmly wait.

Personally if you want more, go get more even if it means leaving EVGA.  I'm not brand loyal, so I don't see the point of getting upset that EVGA isn't satisfying you.

Jacob, is EVGA going to make all the other X79 boards 100% POSCAP capacitors also? Looking at this pic that seems to be the case. Any chance of some full board pics of the non Classified boards?

and see next year at this time to look for my next system update.
this is not the time to do anything just yet.

Re:An Upcoming EVGA Motherboard... 2011/11/06 14:19:58 (permalink)
Two things.
1) I am going to cry about the X79 Classy, as it is less than 1/4 of an inch too big for my case.  Measuring XL-ATX as the same dimensions from the X58 Classy 4Way SLI.  Until I know official dimensions of the X79 Classy it's all I have to go on.  So that means either ASUS Republic of Gamers Rampage IV Extreme, or the EVGA X79 FTW...  November 15th needs to get here quick.

2.) Since the X79 is an official thing, why doesn't EVGA start up a X79 thread so that we can find all the X79 information under one spot.  I know it would take the fun out using your search engine for "X79" and pulling up multiple threads, some of which have nothing to do with the X79 platform.  Please?

EVGA will create an X79 section soon, technically all of this X79 is fake and unconfirmed as intel hasnt said that it is making X79 (even though it is) imagine that practical joke if it were like that lol
