In my build i plan on using 2 hexcore Xeon's or gulftowns whichever makes it to release first, and it will be included on my master w/c loop (have 4 pc's using the same loop atm. its part indoor/outdoor. i seen early in the thread you were talking about using 2 psu's on 2 seperate circuits in your home IF YOU DO THAT MAKE SURE they are on the same rail. most homes are single phase 220v in the breaker box and its split into 2 rails, those rails are out of phase with eachother by 90degrees (by looking at the sine wave at 60hz) if you can't insure they are on the same side or rail, you will need to crack them open or make some jumpers between them to ensure the 0v monitors are spliced (with shotsky diodes) and the main ground leads are shared and of course chasis ground them together, this may not be an issue for new psu's but i know it is crucial for some of the older models especially when they are connected in your system by some means ie psu1 running mobo and psu2 on gfx cards. enough on that, lol. i've had stellar performance from the GSKill trident memory and will probably stick with that at first in the build, and will use 3 gtx480's if available at the time of build, if not ive got a stack of 295's and 285's here waiting to be used again. i can't wait to get this beast of a board on my bench (with this board its no longer a bench but a table) Keep em' crankin' JsT

The thought of having this board with two high end xeons or the soon to be i7 6 cores (I believe they'll work) is very exciting. I would have to sell off most of my i7 rigs (boards and chips) to get there but the benefits for rendering etc would be awesome. I reckon my gear would sell to pay for the board and two cpus later down the line (+ a little cash of course ;) ) Quality thread Talonman.

Don't know if I am going to build my own case or buy a mountain mods case or not. About the CPU's the New i7s have dual qpi but one of them are disabled on the consumer models (AKA i7) the server versions of those chips are called Xeon. (this is for the people that don't feel like researching the 6 core i7s). Source When I actually start to build the machine the 8 cores should be out. Hrm, 8 cores with hyper threading = 16 x 2 physical CPUs = 32 threads.

According to Guru3D's new review on the i7 980, it does have dual QPI. Looking at a post+link above, one of them is disabled? I'm seeing conflicting information so far. The FAQ imo is not crystal clear. So the only thing holding the 980 back is that it doesn't have dual QPI? or that only 1x QPI is active?(Would be nice if the 2nd could be re-enabled, Makes the Xeon price seem much more like a rip off if this is the case). The inactive QPI is just sitting there as a piece of bloat I guess?

GG why are there so many people arguing on here for? EVGA makes a product I know I will buy, I'm excited about it, cant wait for its release. I LOVE these forums, I fold for EVGA, and everything in my current build is EVGA. Most of the reason why I love EVGA is because of the tolerant people that look over these forms and help n00bs like me get things working, 99.9% of the time I don't have to make a post because its covered in a FAQ or someone else has already asked it, and the people that helped those people are among the nicest people ever. Why is it here recently people are starting to bad mouth people, starting to argue over dumb things, and getting warnings from the mods/admins, I know for a fact that these forms are known amongst the internet as being one of the most helpful even to people that didn't buy an EVGA product. I know I probably should have not said all that but I felt that someone should have said something. If I am to be warned then I shale take it like a man and move on. Back on topic. I am currently torn if i should go to Lowes/Home Depot and buy some Plexiglas and build my own case or get one from Mountain Mods. Something about making my own case kinda seems like it would be fun, and I would enjoy posting pictures on my progress on here if the project materializes. I hope the full board water block is not too expansive as this will be my first Water Cooled system I will ever build, I may be making post latter on asking for help with that. Does anyone know the progress of the 8 core Xeons? Can't help to remember reading somewhere about those.

I'm pretty sure you can forget about using them with the SR-2, the Beckton/Nehalem-EX 8 core cpu uses socket LGA-1567 and is 45nm, think it's launching this month as well. Doesn't seem like there will be anything above 6 core on socket 1366 but I could be wrong. Wouldn't it be nice if motherboards were more modular, replace just the cpu socket, or the memory sockets, or pci-e, etc with upgrades. Blah

The-Hunter Old news on the net but should be useful to this thread as it was not yet in here. Launch date on most of these : March 16 2010 Quote: Intel Readies 13 Westmere-based 32 nm Xeon Processors Outgrowing the known lineup of 32 nm client processors (under the Core family), Intel's upcoming lineup of processors based on the 32 nm Westmere architecture will comprise of no less than 13 models under the Xeon E5000, L5000, X5000, and W3600 series. Among these, there are six hexa-core Xeon processors, including X5680 (3.33 GHz), X5670 (2.93 GHz), X5660 (2.80 GHz), and X5650 (2.66 GHz). X5680 has a TDP of 130W, with the latter three sub 3 GHz models having TDP as low as 95W. There is an energy-efficient L5640 hexa-core model clocked at 2.26 GHz, with TDP at 60W, and a single-socket W3680, clocked at 3.33 GHz with 130W TDP. All these models have six cores, and 12 MB of L3 cache. Next up, are Intel's first 32 nm quad-core processors: Xeon X5677 (3.46 GHz, 130W), X5647 (3.06 GHz, 95W), E5640 (2.66 GHz, 80W), X5630 (2.53 GHz, 80W), X5620 (2.40 GHz, 80W), and energy efficient L5630 (2.13 GHz, 40W), and L5609 (1.86 GHz, 40W). Except L5609, all these quad-core chips have HyperThreading Technology and Turbo Boost available. The L2 cache amounts for each of these chips is unknown as of now, but should be up to 8 MB, or as low as 4 MB for some models. Most of these chips are slated for release on March 16, 2010. source well, I am going to quote myself for clarity and also point yet again to the FAQ, on the stickied FAQ is clearly says what range of CPUS will work on this mobo. If you want to try something else, you can of course go ahead, but the FAQ that is sticked in this forum section, is basically made by the one of the guy that holds the most worlds record in OC, and if I take a wild guess, is probably one of the main drivers behind this motherboard very motherboard creation. By that logic its probably an idea to try things that is tested to work correctly on this mobo. Also is post on this forum and all over the place, he clearly indicates that he is testing the bios for this mobo on various OC levels. If he says this and this range works on the CPUS meant to use, then at least I would stick to what is said to work and tested to work by him and the team from EVGA, its clearly posted in the FAQ of his this info. If you want more info, then read the thread maybe before people go ask the same questions that have been asked before over and over again in this forum thread and other on this very forum section. There is no personal attacks on anyone, its not pointed to one person in specific, this is done by many people on this thread and other threads on this forum section of the RS-2. Now take my info bit for what it is please, its a post with information posted by me that is trying to help you guys find the right info. There is another thread even clearer, what CPU does what out of this range, on this forum over in the other thread, on this forum SR-2 forum section, pointing to the exact same facts released from Intel.

Any suggestions? They are going to have a hard time selling this thing if we cant find cases for it. They have to make it smaller don't they? there is 2 lian li cases that will work, check the post in this thread for mobo size and check size of those cases, and you will find them easily.

All of the 6 core processors are from the same product that goes through the fabs. Depending on how they bin at sort/e-test they can have a number of things done with them. Some will have 2 cores disabled and come out as the quad core Xeon's. Some will have 1 QPI link disabled and end up as i7 980's or the 36xx series Xeon's. This board will only run 55xx or 56xx Xeon processors. So yes, the i7's do all have 2 QPI links, but they all have one fused off so that it is not usable and not active.
