Hey guys. I want to step up from my dad's i3/Radeon 6450/4GB work station which can (almost!) hold 30 FPS on literally the lowest settings, render distance and 1024x768p resolution in Bad Company 2, to name an example. I want to build my very first pc which is capable of FullHD 60 FPS gaming while trying to keep it under 1400€, including monitor. So far this is what I figured out -

i5-7400
Z270 FTW K
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING (blower)
HyperX Fury DDR4-2133 2x4GB
HyperX Fury 2.5" 120GB SSD
Barracuda 3.5" 2TB 7.2kRPM
Samsung SE-208GB/RSDBE external optical drive
EVGA 500W Non-Modular
DG-84 case
Asus PA238QR 23" 1920x1080
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

However all that costs about 1600€ on computeruniverse.net/mindfactory.de, which are the only dealers I will purchase from. I wanted to center my build around the i5-4460 first but I couldn't find any decent mainboards for it. Scrapped that, looked at some 6th-gen Skylake i5's but price for 7400 3.0 GHz dropped to 200€, which is great for a 3.0GHz (at least in Germany, ha-ha.) . But, as it turns out and everybody here may know, some Z170 mainboards require a BIOS update before using Kaby-Lake's, and I'm not willing to run the risk of needing to update using a second CPU. I couldn't find any compability notes on EVGA's Z170 mainboards and Kaby-Lake CPUs (I've read about other manufacturers releasing Kaby-Lake-compatible Z170 mainboards). The price difference between the Z170 FTW and Z270 FTW is 50€, which is quite considerate, considering my budget

So, any suggestions? Should I just go with a Skylake CPU?

Also, will I need additional case fans? "As far as I remember" the DG-84 comes with 2 fans in the back, 1 uptop and 1 in the front panel.

Thanks in advance, and please don't beat me to death if I posted in the wrong forum section.

Leon

    Welcome to the Forums LeonHauptmann

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit --> could you get the Pro & or an OEM version for less $ ?

Do Not install the second HD (mechanical) until after Windows is installed; as it will span all the HD it can find.  If later you replace the second drive Windows will refuse to boot.

After your OS is installed and updated, install additional drives and enable them.  Move All Library files to the second drive.  This will ensure that the SSD is not filled with photos, movies and such

Also keep in mind that Windows 7 is not officially supported on Kaby Lake, so you may run into issues there.

Is evga Z270 FTW-K cheaper than ASUS, GIGABYTE or MSI Z270 motherboards? The reason i ask is because other mfg have better onboard audio and audio software features.  Do some research on the audio chip and audio software that comes with each mfg motherboard, if you care about quality of onboard audio.

Places i think you can save money on:
Motherboard (check out other mfg offerings)
    Case (look at mid towers)
Windows 7 (make a windows 10 USB boot drive for free using a 8-16GB usb stick, buy a cheap Windows 10 PRO 64-bit OEM key off ebay or another site you trust)

The money you save, could go towards a bigger SSD or better quality PSU.

Stick with Evga for great motherboards, and great customer service. All other Evga products are the way to go too. Don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise.

Did you even bother to read what the OP wrote. He has a budget of 1600€ to build a system and get a monitor too. All the parts you listed would blow his budget. Also EVGA Z270 FTW-K is not a good buy at all, it's more expensive and has less features for the money.

ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero LGA1151 cost less (in the US) and gives you more features. Doesn't use old Realtek audio or generic Realtek audio. It also has software to control all the fans on the desktop too.

Lots of good Z270 motherboards around $200 for people who have a smaller budget to work with.

Hey, thanks for all the answers. So after doing some more research , I don't need a Z-chipset at all, so I'm gonna roll with an ASUS H270. IF I'm gonna stick to the 7400, which I wasn't aware of having compability issues with Windows 7.

Also rethinking the case. I like it and I'm convinced on EVGA's QC and support, but I never really took a look at other cases prices.

I would recommend keeping an eye out for 80% plus Silver rated or higher power supply on sale (550-650w). That 500W would be fine for work desktop or media center system, but for gaming, i would try to get 80% plus silver rated or higher unit.
