Much like the deal that HTC struck with Valve to bring the HTC Vive virtual reality headset to market, Starbreeze has announced a partnership with Acer to make the StarVR headset a reality. To help that along, the two companies have even formed a new company: Acer Starbreeze Corporation, with $25 million shared equity to get the ball rolling.

Horrible design. Might as well strap a cinderblock to your face. Only $25 million? ROTFL...

Why is it a bad design? Also i imagine this is a prototype and not a production model.

looks are kind of irrelevant once the VR headset is securely set over your face. Nevertheless, I'm will to bet that Acer will drive this to complete success with better support to their customers than Vive or even Oculus.

$25 million is not serious development cash.

I'm hoping so. I would always steer away from Acer, and get Asus monitors but after dealing with Asus customer support I got a Acer X34. I have to say I love that X34, I am hoping their VR headset is also nice.

Perhaps. But if that's all they are spending to develop this and it turns out great, then Acer definitely is a company to know what they are doing and how to spend their money to make good products, unlike other competitors that spend more money to make good products.

The only way this would work is if they used the SteamVR SDK. That'll be problematic because I see no hand controllers. We do NOT need yet another VR SDK floating around. We're already up to 4 major VR SDKs.

yeah true. It's still nice though that Acer is coming up with their version. We at least have a company from the monitor industry coming out with their version. It should be good either way. Let's hope for the best.
