I'm about to purchase a 1070 Hybrid FTW which is anything but cheap and I have some questions regarding the whole overheating VRAM, thermal pads and BIOS update.

If I would purchase this specific GPU now, would it mean that I still have to perform the bios update and applying thermal pads to the VRAM myself? Or will I receive a model that already has this bios update and thermal pads?

Sorry if I don't know all the ins and outs about current problems/required updates, but I feel it's ridiculous to purchase a 550 euro GPU that I have to take apart myself to fix manufacturer faults.

Not trying to bash EVGA by the way, I feel they're doing their absolute best to deal with these issues, but I'm wondering if it's maybe better to just wait until new batches of 'fixed' GPU's are being shipped.

Thanks in advance guys

If you're going to purchase, maybe wait a week or two, so that you have a better chance of getting an already-updated card. EVGA said that all cards shipped since November 1st have the updates already applied. It might be a couple of weeks before the updated cards are being sold on store shelves, since companies already have stock of the old versions to sell.

I assume that with the 1st of November, you mean all card that EVGA shipped to their retailers right? Is it possible for retailers to know/check if the GPU's already have the updates applied? I was thinking of just contacting the retailer, since it's already after 1st of November.

Hybrids are not affected by the VRM issue, as they do not use ACX 3.0. You should be fine.

My rig: Gigabyte X99 SLI, GTX 1080 Hybrid, Corsair Vengeance 3000Mhz RAM, Intel 6800k, Corsair 750D Obsidian Airflow Edition, Dell S2716DG 144Hz G-sync Monitor, Deepcool Captain 360 CPU Cooler.

But I do have to do the BIOS update, or is that also only for the cards with the ACX 3.0 cooler?

No because there is no BIOS update for the Hybrid model for the VRM issue as you can see in the list here: http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/
