Hey guys. I've been using EVGA products for years and they've been amazing. Anyway, I bought this EVGA GTX 1080 Superclocked last week and installed it. After days of tweaking, this thing is still underperforming massively IMO. I did a few Unigine Valley benchmarks.. First score before clearing drivers.. FPS:87.8 Score:3675 Min FPS:22.4 Max FPS:150.0 using 8x AA
Second score, cleared drivers. USING 4x AAFPS: 103.2 Score: 4319 Min FPS: 23.0 Max FPS: 169.0 Third score, overclocked CPU to 4 GHz USING 4x AA FPS: 115.5 Score: 4834 Min FPS: 35.4 Max FPS: 192.2 These numbers are still pretty bad. I mean it's an improvement over the beginning number. I don't get what's wrong with my setup. My GTX 770 got reasonably similar performance numbers.. My rig: EVGA GTX 1080 SC 32 GB Corsair Ram DDR3 Quad Channel RAM 1200 watt PSU ASUS Rampage IV Extreme MOBO Intel Core i7 3930k OC to 4 GHz I cleaned the drivers with DDU and forced Gen 3 on my card as well. Still pretty poor performance. Any ideas?

Yes, you are probably CPU limitated, because when you overclock your cpu, you have better score. But it's just bench, I guess you wont be limited ingame.

Well I can tell you from experience the 1080GTX is 25% faster than 770 Sli. That's what I replaced when I slapped in my 1080 GTX F|E from Evga. I noticed a large performance increase over my 770 SC Sli. Using a i5 4690k @ 4.7GHZ on a Asus Sabertooth Mark 2 Z97 board- Valley 1.0 EVGA 770 SLI =95.6 fps EVGA 1080GTX F|E= 109-113 fps Heaven 4.0 EVGA 770 SC SLI- 109-111 fps EVGA 1080 GTX F|E= 135-137 fps Firestrike 1080pEVGA 770 SLI= 12,170 highest bench EVGA 1080 GTX F|E 16,717 Huge difference between 770 SLI and a 1080 GTX! You mentioned you were just using 1x 770 GTX? that's pretty crazy to say that a 8GB Vram card with GDDR5X is even comparable to a single 2GB VRam 770 GTX!

Thank you. It's running Gen 3 at x16. (It was running Gen 2 until I forced it to Gen 3). Motherboard's BIOS is updated. I will get back to you on Fire Strike.

Heaven benchmark = Valley benchmark? Thereabouts anyway?

FPS: 103.5 Score: 2608 Min FPS: 28.9 Max FPS: 219.4 I changed my nVidia control panel to "Prefer maximum performance" and that's what I got boosted up to. Still should be higher given it's a factory SC'd card.. Maybe I should OC my Processor more and see what happens EDIT: Be advised, my monitor runs 1920 x 1200 and not 1920 x 1080.

Yeah, should be around 135fps with a 1080GTX card on Heaven 4.0, that's on the high side with a +134mhz OC to core/+400mhz OC to memory and a 800mhz OC to my 4690k. I think@ base clocks should hit about 110fps on a 1080.

Computer crashed at 4.5 GHz right away. Anyway, went back down to 4.3, booted up Prime95 on blend and my PC froze and bluescreened immediately. Seems like a dying CPU to me. "Machine Check Exception". Perhaps that's the reason for my low performance? EDIT: Running Small EFTs and the thing hasn't crashed yet. Now I'm leading to believe that there's a bad stick of RAM in there that's causing all of these problems in that case. Windows memory tester is useless. Must say, I get stuttering frequently during playing. The only other time i had this happen was when I had faulty 4870 x2's back in the day with ATi. I don't know if it's really a fault GFX card, because the computer has been doing some strange things lately. For example, when I hold my mouse click down, it'll randomly release and click again on its own. Also icons on the desktop have been resetting randomly too. This just started happening a few days before I installed the GTX 1080. I wonder if it can actually just be the RAM..? EDIT 2: Running Blend on Prime95 again and it hasn't crashed instantly. Must be randomly cycling through RAM to select?

I agree with the above...I think you are starting to get CPU-bound. Have you tried higher resolutions? This places a heavier load on the GPU.

It sounds like you might have to do some reading about how to overclock properly. BSOD, failure to boost to OS, are just the result of an unstable overclock. That doesn't mean that your CPU can't handle the speed you have it set to, but you have to learn all the factors involved in making that speed stable for your specific CPU. A different CPU of the same make and model will require a different equilibrium of settings (voltage type manual / offset, voltage value, LLC, c-states, etc) to handle the same speed setting. From what I see in google searches, a voltage in the neighbourhood of 1.35v is often needed for an i7 3930k to do 4.5 Ghz.

Okay by Does that explain mY computer's massive slowdowns at 4 GHz! Sometimes I'll be typing it'll slow down like mad and then finally type out what I was writing. It's like it's a dying processor. I also realized my CPU fan wasn't on for a long time and had to replace it a few days ago. The processor was teaching 90 Celsius at times. I wonder if it's damaged permanently.. It's running super cold now and can game endlessly with no crashing - just. A lot of slow downs. What if I up my voltage? It's at 1.2 now at 4.2 GHz. I'm just trying to find what's slowing down this computer so much and why it feels like my GTX 1080 sucks as much as my GTX 770

Nope, reinstalled windows. Starting to believe it's actually my GPU and not my CPU. My CPU scored reasonably well on the 3dmark passmark test. Look at this **** score on the GTX 1080.. It's below the average. I don't know what to do.
