I have a dual boot of Win7 64bit ultimate and Windows XP 32bit professional.

I notice no drivers for WIndows XP on nvidia's website.

Now i know and am fully aware that EVGA/NVIDIA is not responsible for anything that happens to my cards from me trying to get them working on windows XP.

but with that said..... is there anyone in the world that has somehow modified some drivers for the titan x to work on winXP?  or perhaps is there any way possible to use the 900 series drivers or similar GPU drivers to work with the Titan X on windows XP?

and please dont ask why are you using this card on windows XP!!  i already explained that i have both environments and it would really suck to not be able to us winXP now because there are no drivers for the card.

thanks

ok so in respose to your completely vague reply, although helpfull none the less,

so even though nvidia reports no drivers listed for Windows XP 32bit on their website, you are telling me that these driver versions will work with XP??

How are you going to manage that huge amount of graphics memory in that unaccommodating 32 bit operating system?

i dont need 12gb gddr5 memory for windows xp obviously.   But i'm not going to remove my GPU's to justify using windows XP now either am i.

i just want to be able to freakin use XP for my OLD games like i have been for years without having to make any hardware changes.

You will not beleve me but there are a few games that came out for Windows 7 and above that actually work and sound better on XP!   especially on a SSD drive.

so because of that, and because the Developers (Deleted for Foul Language) up!, Windows XP is here to stay for me.

I am just wondering how it will work.  Will XP go haywire?  I am afraid that your hardware will reserve all the memory available and you will have no system RAM available to use since address space will already be full.

I am not wondering how you are going to get all your graphics memory to work (because I know you won't be able to), I am wondering if XP will even boot after you install the drivers.

i think i stated earlier that i had a GTX 680 classified 4GB GDDR5 with windows XP and it did not go haywire.

So i dont understand why you'd think the titan x would make it behave that way.

if it reports just 4gb GDDR5 thats fine with me lol.

You stated earlier? Where?

Anyways... no, it would not have 4 GB of useable GDDR5. If it did have 4 GB of useable GDDR5, you would have 0 MB of system RAM and it would never boot. 4 GB is the TOTAL memory address space availble in XP 32 bit which means 2 GB of system RAM and 2 GB of GDDR5 would be the best outcome you could hope for.

I am wondering if you will have control of that memory management issue to achieve a desireable balance or if you will be powerless to control it.

Well, yeah, GPU-z will show the full amount of VRAM. GPU-z shows the card's specifications. It doesn't show the memory pool available to the operating system. Just because a card has 4 or 12 GB of VRAM doesn't mean that XP 32-bit can use it. Try taking a look at the VRAM available in DXinfo DXdiag or NVIDIA system information.

I remember a nVidia QadroFX card that would run it's 4GB GGDR3 Vram in 64-bit mode, but in 32-bit mode would treat its buffer as if there was less, 1.7GB.  I forget which model it was, but I remember that was the circumstance in professional OS'.

Look. I'm only going to assume you're trying to install your Titan on Windows XP (have no idea why... - xp is a dead system and needs to seriously just die already) (and your subject line says "TItanx on windows XP 32 bit") but you now say that the Titan is for Windows 7... I would actually be shocked the Titan would even run for Windows XP. So you have to understand why youre getting loaded with questions. Why?

stalinx20:  It is clear to me he is dual-booting 7 and XP on the same hardware, but asking how to make Titan-X work with the XP-boot.  Sandy Bridge and Sandy Bridge-E were the last chipset generations to support XP drivers, so that part is settled.  The only aspect of consideration is the new graphics card, and again, knowing why he uses XP shouldn't keep us from answering his question because it is none of our business.  Everyone needs to get over it and quit acting like we're all supposed to move on and agree with everyone else.

To make the Titan X work properly with dual booting you have to make sure you have drivers available for both operating systems. Once that is determined then you MUST make sure the dual boot is on different hard drives. For example operating system A would be on the D drive and operating system B would be the C drive. If you don't do this your drivers will be a mess.

Yes, it is true that we should not judge or push our opinions on a user.  But....  I am not sure that it will even work.  I guess he will have to find out for himself.  NVIDIA recommends 24 GB or more of system memory to work properly with the TITAN X.  Windows XP 32-bit can only address 4 GB of memory total (includes hardware reserved memory and system RAM).  So, there will be somewhere between 0 and 4 GB of system RAM available and somewhere between 0 and 4 GB of VRAM available.  Hope the balance works itself out properly.  If it does work, it will be very gimped.

I think the OP's attitude needs a re-work to ask for help and then snap at replies is not what I would do to get an answer.

I'm curious to know why you would buy a $1,000 GPU to play games on Windows XP
I highly doubt any of them are intense enough

I don't utilize Windows XP anymore, but that's like saying "what movie back in the 80s was so great you'd want to watch it again"? LOL
Hundreds of games from Windows XP or even DOS era still well worth playing. I play games that are good, it doesn't matter if the graphics are "up to date" or not.

So tell me "what movie back in the 80s was so great you'd want to watch it again" and I bet I'm a lot older than you, I once had the worlds fastest Amiga 1000 according to The Amiga World magazine.

And I can't think of any game/movie from back then, although I am looking forward to Doom!

But seriously everybodies taste is different and I was really interested in what the OP saw as a good game, I still can't figure out why people buy TitanX or run 980's in SLI, but like I said I'm old.

My guess would be game immersion either through multiple monitors or one large one and for maxing out the details

My guess would be game immersion either through multiple monitors or one large one and for maxing out the details

I guess your talking hardware and yes a matter of personal taste, if sitting in the lounge room in front of a big TV or looking at 3 or more monitors, but even then a 980 kicks A, me I sit in front of a 24" 144Hz 2Ms screen with an exact same monitor to it's right, I only game on 1 screen and yes I can use DSR thanks to my 980.

As to seeing detail! a game, a movie a book is about the story not the cover and providing the game play is adequate I'm not going to be stopping in mid shot to marvel at the flowers and trees.

I think the push for hardware etc is out of hand but suits the manufactures to keep pushing it, I have a rig that could now be classed as at least 2 generation old yet I would not replace a thing on it, there is no game and or application that even slows it down, I do a lot of photography and processing 20Gb images for sale is very heavy work

Anyway I think I am getting into the 'ranting' stage so sorry,! each to his own but still waiting to read the game from the past.

I can see why THe OP would/might have windows XP on his computer, to play those games that just do not/will not work with windows 7, vista, or 8, or whatever. But that's where the problem comes while using a Titan X, he won't have any available RAM,while using windows xp 32 bit. How about windows XP 64 bit? He could use that....

At Lephron : In no way was i trying to give a judgemental attitude, but the response that i was given when asked, "what was the reason for purchasing a Titan", only to be given a disgruntled remark (Hating while asking for help makes me shake my head) makes need to check him so he understands he's going to get some strange questions, especially when dealing with xp 32 bit in today's era (Plus the requirements of the Titan X). I don't think he understands that the Titan is going to suck all his "juice".

On another note, can someone help me out here.... Didn't Microsoft introduce that "Virtualization mode" for this reason? So programs that required windows xp would work on windows 7?

that virtualization mode is good only for Programs.  Not games.  Already went that route a while back.  Thats why i ended up with dual boot to windows XP.

my only concern with XP Pro is the fact that i might not be able to do an in-place upgrade to that.  Not entirely sure if i can.   I just really dont want to have to install from scratch everything.

maybe someone here can confirm whether i can or cannot do an in-place upgrade to XP Pro.

So i think i understand what everyone is saying regarding the titanX and XP 32bit.  Because the card uses 12 GB, your thinking that since XP only uses 4gb or 3.5GB whatever, that the card would suck all the juice.

That would make sense... but i was using the GTX680 Classifieds 4GB cards with latest Nvidia Drivers on XP32bit no problem before i upgraded to TItan X.  So would'nt that have caused issues too if what your saying is true?

Anyway
i just tried 353.86 and nvidia tells me "Cannot find compatible hardware" :(!!!!!!!
i have not tried the rest but i will.
there must be a way to modify these drivers to force them to work on XP.

I would try using XP x64 instead. That way you won't run into any issues with the ram on the Titan X, or your system memory for that matter.

Was using x64 not long ago myself and had no issues running older games on it and was able to use all the system memory and GPU memory withouth any problems.

Although, that was done using a Xeon X5670 6core CPU, a GeForce GTX 780ti 3gb GPU, and 24gb of DDR3 system memory.

Not sure if the XP drivers supports the Titan X though as it is not listed as supported.

"Cannot find compatible hardware"

Figured that would most likely be the case for the XP driver because the device (Titan X) isn't in the ListDevices.txt or the Display.Driver\nv4_dispi.inf file.

I'm sure there's good reasons an XP driver isn't available for a Titan X and I assume that would be how WinXP in combination with DX9 handle address space/memory/resources, as stated above..Titan X is supported in Vista and newer I assume because of the OS and DX10 (and newer) which handle more address space/memory/resources better.

If you're bent on trying to make a Titan X work with XP, you would need to mod the .inf file to add Titan X to the XP 32-bit driver..Or maybe even take the nv_dispi.inf from the Vista 32-bit driver, change the name to nv4_dispi and put it into the XP driver (seriously doubt that one though)..Or, take all the device (Titan X) information from the Vista 32-bit driver ListDevices.txt and the nv_dispi.inf and put it into the XP driver's nv4_dispi.inf..Or, something like all that, who knows ..People can and have successfully modded .inf files to work and others have not..You can monkey around and try it, but no guarantees it'll work all the time or even work at all, never done it, and a system restore point should definately be manually created..You can search and find some info on modding .inf files like here or here or more places (search "NVIDIA INF modding" or "NVIDIA drivers INF editing"..Check YouTube also)..Running a Titan X with XP just simply might (probably) be impossible even with a cobbled up driver.
