irrelevant to me. I wouldn't buy AMD if you paid for it for me.

Good for them, I won't use them because of prior bad experinces with random issues, red screen of death, bad cross fire scaling, random card death but competition is always welcome.
 
But so far AMD/ATI gpu's I've owned that disappointmented

HD6670 (kept crashing the display driver)
HD 7790 (Red Screen of Death issues)
HD 4870 xfire (terrible scaling)
HD 3870+3850 (terrible scalining)
x1900XTX it just died on me 3 months into ownership, replacement died 2 months after that
Radeon 9800 Pro kept having driver issues
Radeon 9700 Pro this thing died multiple times and eventually got replaced
Radeon 64mb DDR Driver issues galore
 
But if other people want to go there I welcome to compitition

When they were ATI, I used to really like their products.  I have used some AMD GPU's like the HD Radeon 7850, in my second rig...was great.  Never any driver issues.  I also used to use the 9800 AIW card...it was great.  I have been with Nvidia since I started using EVGA back in 2007.  Really intrigued by the Vega info circulating.  Will see!

My only hope is that maybe some real top end competition will drive prices back down.

IF and I put that in caps...AMD does release Vega (.14nm) in Oct this could possibly be a double hit on Nvidia.  Nvidia has done a poor job releasing Pascal, and now this.  Vega is supposed to be more competitive on the high end...in combination with their release of the RX 360 / 470 / 480...they could really put a dent in Nvidia.  It will be interesting to see what Nvidia does to volley.  They could lower prices on Pascal or just glut the market with their newest architecture, thus making Pascal obsolete sooner than later.  Going to be an interesting time, coming soon.

Yep, totally agree, and I won't doubt for a second that Nvidia knows they did a poor job releasing Pascal. Admitting it is another story, and I think that's why they made a quick shift to Samsung to make their chips instead of TSMC. I guess TSMC couldn't handle the demand, and maybe that's why Samsung is also promising 14nm(?) as well. Maybe that's why they're shifting to Samsung for the better nm, because Nvidia does do their homework, and knows Vega is coming. Who knows...

I'm excited.  We NEED much stronger GPUs if we're going to be pushing 4K 120Hz displays to their limits.  The sooner Volta releases, the better.

i'm a intel fan since 1999 ( intel pentium III) ... and never had issues. so...not really into AMD...
As for ATI i really had issues before with them and never with nvidia.  
but i wish ATI gave more fight like 3dfx did back in the days...

If I have to post all 700+ VGA cards I had in my life from the following vendors:

My post would get too long, S3, 3dfx, NVIDIA & ATi/AMD were by far my faved experiences ever also most trouble free as well.
But none the less all the others were fun to try out, but I have to admit AMD has been doing considerably well and I have a good feeling their new ZEN CPU will be their new K7 Athlon Thunderbird and Vega will be their new R300 aka Radeon 9700 Pro, two wonderful revolutions, I been using Radeons since 2002 and not one Radeon has died on me, as for NVIDIA Cards I used them since the Riva TNT these were mega fun as well my first 3 was the S3 Virge DX, my first Matrox was the Matrox G400 MAX, my first 3Dfx Voodoo was the Diamond Multimedia Monster 3D PCI 4MB :)

Well gotta admit, that was clearly the best VGA card I ever worked with with my entire life.
Just way too many good memories.
 
 
Above all, I have treated my hardware as always maintaining them cleaning them and this has probably saved them, for the most of it.
So to be very honest I really don't care what is faster Radeon or GeForce, it's mianly what I am going to pay for it if AMD can make Vega as fast as TITAN X and it costs like half price then
you know I choose, if NVIDIA does the same I choose them.
 
And really I hope we will get some nice competition again, because that is the only way the prices will be normal again, competition is healthy for the market.
It never was a bad thing.
 
So is AMD Vega a good thing? Frankly being?
 
Yes it is and I hope it is since we need a healthy competition again.

Might? I'd bet money on it. With supplier issues going on, they've got to be laser cutting binned chips on GP100, GP102 and GP104. The failed GP100 and/or GP102's will obviously become laser cut 1080ti in the near future when enough of them are warehoused and AMD needs more prodding. Nvidia has never been known to throw away a failed QC chip when they can laser cut it into something a little less and sell it anyways. The GTX1070 is a direct example of that at the moment.

It's disaster how much NVIDIA ask for GTX1080.
Price of GTX980Ti Hybrid in Europe is 530-550 euro. Price of GTX1080 Classified is 850 euro.
That mean GTX1080 only could cost more. 300-350 euro price difference for 20% better performance.
Actually NVIDIA sell similar performance as TITAN X Maxwell, for 200-250$ lower price but 2 years later.
Tragedy or TITAN X Pascal for 1200$. Because of that I wait so much and wait AMD and look what will happen...
If I pay 800-850 euro for GeForce and tomorrow 20-30% stronger Radeon show up for 700-750 euro.
I mean their task is not hard, they need to launch 30% more than 2 years old NVIDIA.
GTX1080 looked great together with first price 599$, but now first Pascal series look as just little but expensive performance improvements only to NVIDIA make fast profit before Radeon series show up and real battle between AMD and NVIDIA.
