Well they seem to be getting back into the server business over in China, they got 300 million to start with and I think this may have given investors something to be happy about. Their shares went from around $2 to $3.99.
Maybe by 2017 we can see a strong Intel/Nvidia competitor... maybe.

I am curious about where they manage to find funds to keep running. I haven't heard of amd making a profit in many years.

I'm not here to start an AMD>INTC or INTC>AMD. That layoff would not have been factored into their current profits. But hey, they are in the business of making money not giving handouts. INTC is just simply in a much better financial situation than AMD and is reflected by both of their current stock values and current dividend that is paid (or lack thereof). According to what I read on their filings AMD lost 87 million in 2013, 198 million in 2014, and 690 million last year in 2015.

No, it's your CEOs who want a fatter check. So to make up for that loss, let's lay off these 12,000 people, and have the bottom barrel work harder and pay them less. That's what it's all about. AMD is just a grain of salt in Intel's minds.
Nothing but a nice fat pyramid with a smaller pointy top. Greed will kill America. In this day in age, a foreigner who is here illegally works harder than one with a PHD.

In a year or so Intel will hire a new batch of disposable employees and get a nice big fat tax break for creating new job opportunities. This is the sad truth about the business world today.

They probably heard I was thinking of switching to AMD from nVidia. Someone must have leaked the info.

I worked for a company that did that every two years. That is a real tax break with no clarification on how you create those new job openings. I got caught in one of those layoffs before I completed my second year of employment. What really stinks is that they laid off some old guy we all called "Pooh Bear" because he looked like Winnie the Pooh. He worked there his whole life amd only had six months to go for his full pension. He got a job across the river in New Jersey and two weeks later he pulled over to the side of the road on his way home and dropped dead from a heart attack. Sometimes life just isn't fair.

When you're number 2 you try harder. If I'm going to throw my money at someone at least I should throw it to someone who is trying.

There are far better ways to spend venture capital than AMD.

FYI "trying" is meaningless. Results are everything.

So basically AMD just sold out the chinese to make their custom chips. Camt wait to see the outcry when china backstabs amd.
