Always will be people who have problems with NVIDIA or AMD drivers, I really don't want to read even single page about AMD or NVIDIA drivers. I hear they are improved but how much I don't know.

Thanks, didn't know this made general hardware, thought it was just general discussion

It is also worth the read man, this thread is not to talk bad about the drivers, just conversation of what you all think of this fiasco

AMD GPU's = Hardware. Could have moved it to Software too, since it also is about drivers. Decided on Hardware. Now, General Discussion for AMD? LOL, I don't think so.

I think it depends on the consumer to be completely honest. And to be even more honest I'm not loyal to AMD/Intel/Nvidia at all. All are more than capable of running modern games and applications. After my wonderful experience dealing with a RMA for a PSU with EVGA I am heavily weighing the option of swapping over to Intel and Nvidia for my personal machine to have the wonderful support of EVGA and giving my AMD machine to my fiance so she can play the games she wants.  But then again.. Just my .02c take it with a grain of salt for what it's worth.

Intel is now necessary for gaming. I tried AMD before 5-6 years and in that period their Phenom II was OK but very fast after 2 years usage in games is 65-70% for CPU and he don't need to work 99% to cause bottleneck, even CPU is not possible to work in games on 99% much before will cause bottleneck for graphic cards. Very soon I start to notice and inferior graphics results in 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 11 than Intel CPU with same graphics. Actually my Phenom probably was not even able to be competitive with better models on 775 socket don't even to talk about i7.

I made mistake because I didn't bought X58 immediately. Later I wait Bulldozer and their promise to offer similar CPU as i7-2600K when they failed we were 5 months far from Ivy and I'm glad because I bought i7-3770K not i7-4770K.Maybe I should upgrade earlier and on Sandy but in first months people are not even aware how that was good CPU with flux solder and special because P67 chipset problems. Later they figure out with Z68 Gen 3 that Sandy is one of best Intel CPU but than was more logic to wait new chipset and new model. Intel is powerful you install him and games are not problem at all for Intel processors. They deal with games easy. You feel CPU power inside and space to offer you more if need.

You have now maybe better Intel platform than few generations before. Now everything is Gen 3, PCI-E, Chipset, 20 PCI-E lanes instead 8.
USB 3.1 standard new memory just presented on Z chipset. Best moment for upgrade is 3-4 months after platform show up. I wait Black motherboard like idiot, I almost missed so nice X99 platform because motherboard color. I will never done such stupid things again and CPU and memory to stay in box 3 months... and I would still wait some non existent motherboard. Best moment is 2-3-4 months after launch and than you enjoy in platform full time. Like me with Z77.
I only can say one thing... Before I upgrade on Z77 I expect to use 2-3 years, and that platform give much more than I expect. Maybe that was my most expensive platform to that moment but give me much more than I even imagine. So powerful platform and CPU and after 3 years of usage you don't feel difference at all in power, like first day, still no such applications or games to ask stronger.

I disagree on the allegation that it's absolutely necessary for gaming. Are they more efficient? Without a doubt. That being said I play all the current games with no hiccups on an AMD based machine. My only reason for swapping over to team blue is to be able to support a company I trust (being EVGA) and so I can pass my machine over to my fiance so she can have the computer she needs.

EDIT: Also it sounds like you got a bad CPU with your Phenom story. I used my Phenom II until the dang thing fried. MANY MANY years.

Re: AMD GPU DRIVERS/THE REAL TRUTH 2015/10/01 21:25:36 (permalink)
I mean for hard core gaming if you don't want to think about CPU power and to compare every month on net how much more fps give  i7
if you don't want to think what will happen if you find cheaper Dual GPU, if you install GTX970/980 SLI when price drop and similar things than Intel is necessary. If someone don't care for 5-6 fps, don't care for newest premium graphic cards than AMD can offer some OK gaming performance. But that's not gaming when you don't need to think about CPU all time and where you can install any graphic card, to change few generations and than once in few years to upgrade on CPU. If AMD look for options to offer i7 with R9-390X and Fury X with their finished system that mean they are aware that only on that way customers don't need to think constantly is it CPU strong enough or how much is behind Intel.
If someone buy CPU for next 2 years and i5 is better than few years old AMD very slow in surfing and similar things and better in games.
But I think most people love to see i7... I don't know, I'm weak on i7 and when I see Intel Core i7 I'm happy as little kid.
I will remember for life that for few hours I missed to buy best Intel CPU ever i7-5960X for exactly half price, fabric sealed. I was so existed when I call that number and than answer ... I'm sorry I reserved to someone I will call you if he gave up... Who will gave up from i7-5960X for 500e.
I will never know how much power/money saved me i7-3770K 77W CPU instead some FX8350 overclocked to 4.5-4.6GHz or more... for 40 months.
And I didn't have some big reason to change, after 40 months he was stronger than FX8350 on launch date and worked with much less usage in newest games.

You know that amd cpus share cache, which gives worse performance. Also they are bad in signle threaded performance. Everyone is also putting their amd system in front line bragging about dx 12. Sad things is that not all games are going to have dx 12 support
