Same, my K|NGP|N doesn't make a noise unless I manually up the fan speed past 40-50%
haven't even heard any coil whine at +300/+400 MHz
No rattling either

What exactly is the rattling noise and the coil whine? I have different types of noise coming from my 780 Classified. One that is more like a vibration (When the fan is around 60-70%) and one that is really high pitched.

You have both coil whine (the high pitched noise) and the fan rattle.

Lucky me!!! :D

I will try to post a video from youtube (is this possible?) on another thread to ask people their opinion on what to do.

One of my Classifieds had this problem, so I tried the fix with some copper tape and it worked perfectly.

Thank you!

I also had another rattle coming from the bottom of the card, which copper tape also fixed.

I have found the issue, see those lower fins at the bottom on the front?,those are entirely loose,on the backside they are a little loose.
Tomorrow i will try to find some thermal tape or some good electrical tape, and will apply some artic cooling paste to see if it makes a difference compared to the paste that has been applied.
So check the front and back of the GTX 770 SC ACX if you have this problem,it got a little annoying lol.

Cheers.

Gwiz, is there any heating or any sort of brace running through the ones you are talking about?

Yes on the backend there's a copper pipe running trough it,but the part that's loose isn't i know i have to find a way to apply it on the closed part of the fins.
But i am pretty sure this is the problem since they are loose on the beginning of the fins towards the end is the copper pipe.

If you'll look at the picture you'll see the copper pipe at the end,is there a problem when i would apply some sort of tape ( prefereably heat resistant ) in the beginning?.

There's no other way and it's quite obvious this would vibrate at a certain RPM either it be low or high,i am just thinking outloud here so i am not sure.

Re:ACX rattle / noise problem fix 2014/02/10 15:35:59 (permalink)
The Only problem is i don't want the tape to come loose and end up in the fan,as you can see possible from this side.

To make perfectly clear those fins on the side of where it says's 770 those last ones if you would hold the card the right side, those lower ones.
Those are basically the same as on the back, but those on the back are not a problem to apply tape on this side however it's very near a fan,and when i say loose i can actually move them around,on the back there's a slight movement but these are doing the boogwoogie  lol.

Anyone from EVGA have suggestions?.

Don't count on it, they haven't been very vocal about this issue... Nor have they admitted there even is an issue.

Hi there.

You can put the tape near the pcb of the card so ifit came loose will not interfear with the fan. Good luck for the fix na please share the results here.

GTX 780 Ti Classified
I had RMA'd my first card and the 2nd wasn't as bad as the first one, it was audible from 40ish% fan speed and up, very loud. The 2nd card stats around 70 fan speed and just said screw it as far as another rma. I trimmed down a few stripes of electrical tape and applied them to the exact same area, and wow where they loose in that area. Thanks for posting this fix, and EVGA......... I'm considering buying a 780 Ti K|NGP|N edition and I am concerned about this rattle issue, more so because I have to pay a silly amount of fees to get one since I live in Canada (not EVGA's fault) and it would be unfortunate for this to happen.

I could just get a regular Classified from a Canadian retailer, although I had one before and it rattled. My main desire in a card is for it to be quiet. My entire PC is silence oriented so I want a card that is pretty quiet.

Well you have a couple options, of course this fix here, it's not to tough and I don't know how the clear shroud will effect this but you should be able to hide it well, Or grab a waterblock and call it good. If neither sound good for you, I think you would be just as happy with the classified Ti its a great card, have 1 myself.

Yeah I loved the regular Classified when I had it. I won't be watercooling though, just air.

It would cost me around $1100 to get one into Canada. The regular Classified is $849 here. Not sure if it's worth it to be honest.

I personally do not believe you will have 250$ in extra performance rofl. To each their own , I know what I would do.

The difference would be around $140 between the KPE and regular Classified after all is said and done. Still a pretty sizeable cost difference though.

My 760 ACX seems to be fine. No rattles yet at any fan speed. Maybe I got lucky on mine seeing that a lot of users seem to have the rattling issues.

Hi guys, im tempted to pull apart my classy today as its annoying me and follow this guide.
I found this video below on youtube of the exact noise mine makes but at different speeds though. Please watch and tell me if the fin/tape solution addresses this sound?

Thank you

That's exactly the same noise mine was making at 40% fan speed.  It was a bit worse above 55%.  TBH, I would just take the cooler off and try the tape.  If it's still making the noise, then it appears something is wrong with the fan and then I would contact EVGA and start a RMA.

Ok I gave it a go and applied tape to all areas where fins appeared loose. Rebooted and that same humming is there at 1140-70 rpms. Didnt help. Thank you for the suggestion. On the plus side my temps have dropped some 4-6 degrees with the better paste I used. So not all was lost. Im just going to keep the fans at 1400rpms as the fans have the least resonance/humming at that level.

Well I finally got my RMA replacement back earlier and it rattled worse than the card I sent in.  I don't even think anyone tested it before shipping it out. No worries though, as I have since fixed the noise using the method in post #1.  Thanks OP for providing detailed instructions.
