ASUS has teased a design for their 1080 cards with RBG lighting and what looks like a cooler with 3 fans. Inno3D has also shown off a version of their 1080 with 3 fans, and Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV has 3 fans. So I wonder what our chances are of getting a new ACX 3.0 version of EVGA's cooler with 3 fans on the 1080? The blower cooler on the Founders Edition has to be run at 100% because reviewers are showing its thermal throttling after 10 mins of intensive load. And when you run the fan that fast its very loud. So the 1080 is hot and after market boards with more power must be even hotter with higher clocks.

Reviewers got cards about a week ago to bench them and check them out and Gamers Nexus shows that the Founders Edition cards are thermal throttling after 10 mins of load when they reach about 82c You have to up the fan to 100% to keep it from throttling while doing intensive gaming, which means its loud.

It throttles the same as every other recent model. It's by design just as with Kepler and Maxwell. They set the fan to keep the GPU at around 80C under load. They consider this a balance between noise and temp. If you're desiring less throttling and somewhat higher boost on the FE version, the choice is to increase the fan speed or go with an AIO or custom water cooling.

Yea which is why I dont want a Founders Edition or a Blower Cooler. I am more interested in seeing a update to the ACX cooler with 3 fans.

Then you do not plan on running two cards or SLI that is.

It looks like someone will need to mod the volts and pbc with water cooling or much better air cooling solution to go over the 2160 mark. the reference cooler can't seem to handle 2050 for that long lol.

Just Water Cool it or wait for the Hybrid Model to come out or a Hybrid Kit. Make real sure the someone has Water Blocks in stock for the Founder Version through before you buy one. The World is not going to end before the other models are released.

Using his 'Frankenhybrid' he gained a couple of percent. He did not demonstrate any problems with the stock card. It was working exactly as designed. Of course an AIO is probably going to be somewhat more effective cooling. In this case barely noticeable. My point being, your expectations of something performing better than it was designed isn't a problem with the product.

Is it me or do the Asus, Gigabyte and Inno3D cards all look very similar? I personally don't care for LEDs on GPUs but to each there own. You can't even see the LEDs on the front of GPUs when installed in most cases.

what are the size of the fans on the 3 fan coolers vs the size of the fans on the acx 2.0? Larger fans are not at loud.

For me RGB mean nothing. If cards are so hot than I will need to miss Classified model because I'm not sure I could afford watercooling. I would love EKWB Predator and Classified with wateblock, but wishes are one and economic situation is something else... Maybe is Hybrid better variant for me.

I don't see any need for 3 fans on the 1080, ACX 2.0 is perfectly fine using just 2 fans. as the new cards have even lower TDP, why change the current design!?

Somehow I prefer cards with 2 fans. No doubt EVGA will present something nice, I'm still not sure what model is for me. It would be much easier with Predator 240 in case to choose something. I hope some cards will have 8+6 pin connectors at least and unlocked power target, even if I think to enjoy on fabric clock only. Hybrid is always nice option, Classified as well. Maybe people with Hybrid kit for Maxwell success to install on Pascal. That would be nice. They could save money on cooler than.

Watching the EVGA doom video it shows founders running 2ghz at 60c with fan at 70% so is this a case of cherry picking? https://youtu.be/nv5WPtGDLSk?t=391 I usually run acx but this time around was going for reference so i could add hybrid cooler later on plus i run SLI.

We have yet to announce anything about non-reference (Founder's) coolers at this point so stay up to date on the forums for any future announcements. Most the benchs I have seen so far suggest that the fan curve on the reference style 1080 is quite conservative, the card seem to run cool under higher RPMs and this is supposedly a quieter cooler than previous reference models

Its a case of cherry picking benchmark / load on the card. Not picking a good card to send to reviewers. Different games will put a different load on the card. Even with all the settings put up. This is normal and always happens. Every game that is made does not put the same amount of stress on the GPU.

I well aware of differentvariables. EVGA is not only ones testing doom with 1080 Ive seen temps hitting over 80c with same fan speed and clocks. EVGA also said theirs was running in closed case with 3 fans. I find it funny EVGA a card maker produces much lower temps than what reviewers are showing. Card maker can easily cherry pick highest quality card apposed to reviews only have one and are limited to nvidia branded models apposed to EVGA founders.

I'd desperately like to see a Hybrid Classified/Kingpin for the 1080. Or at least a Hybrid FTW so you know you're getting a good chip.
