Hello there people, I need urgent help with my purchase of a new gaming rig.

I am having second thoughs on my purchase I am about to make. Rumors of Pascal, Broadwell along with 980 ti not being a "true directx 12" card, along with 6960x makes me think about my choice of buying soon.

Can anyone debunk som of it for me? I will provide link down under with infomation I have researched on the matter.

So will it be a buy time buying? Is it down right a unsmart choice to buy now? Som say both things are in Q3, som are certain Pascal is Q3 whilst they say "6960x etc" is Q1-Q2 ish.
New architecture and NVLink, or is it somthing else?

https://pcpartpicker.com/...80ti-they-are-obsolete - Here is story about the 980 ti obsolete thing, not my words.

Story of my current rig is from 2008 and its looking grim.

I played the waiting game for I can't tell how long and currently running a geforce 280, and only 3,5 of my ram works out of (6GB) I got 4x1GB sticks to replace them maybe if all hell breaks loose. I can't remember my cpu but its back from 2008ish Quad core. Its toaster. I got a backup CPU and motherboard, that is just as bad, from a friend, so I can't tell if it will be a "Good replacement" but its a backup.

But chances are it dies is there, its not set in stone. But in the last half year I lost ram and ramslots working, alot with usb functionality from my motherboard longer back, in most of the slots. Only got a few working back. Along with my 460, but a friend gave me his old 280 to make me last until I bought a new pc.

I got Witcher 3, Assassin Creed All of em, Warhammer Vermintide, Dragon "All", Battlefield 4 + more just waiting to be played. But I can't, as it is.. I manage to get a few games working like Blood Bowl 2 on "medicore" graphics.
Its bad okay.

I saved up and waited for 4-5 years maybe more. And I want to go big. The subject is not if my hardware setup is good, I wish to go big , not buy to suffice this time. I want to buy it all together to get a good warranty on my hardware which I can get in this deal I got, with 5% off on hardware too. The deal is great, but is the time really now, or am I buying into obsolete hardware?

Please remember this is not about my choice of hardware, but if the hardware I am about to buy is obsolete or simply not worth buying vs waiting for the Pascal and Broadwell.

I recently upgraded my QX9650 for the same reasons. I upgraded my 2 280 gtx to 680 a couple of yrs ago trying to prolong the inevitable. Got to a point I couldn't enjoy the newer games. I kept playing the waiting game, telling myself I should wait cause the next best thing is coming. The problem with that is you're constantly waiting. This past weekend I took the plunge and upgraded to z170/6700k and its been such a relief doing it. lol Plus I'm finally playing Witcher 3 that I bought from day one. Go for it, IMHO I don't think you'll regret it.

honestly man no they are not obsolete at all. Most games will run great on a GTX 480/GTX570/GTX660Ti/GTX 760/GTX950 just fine, as well as an i5 2xxx or greater.

Heck I still have a friend that still plays games on his Phenom II X4 955 with GTX 275 and he does just fine with lowered settings.
