The stakes: A few of you might know I've been trying to apply for and fund a study abroad trip on an ocean liner that goes around the world. I've been accepted and have been working on heaping piles of aid and scholarship applications as well as passports, visas, etc. Early in the spring I sold my beloved Modern Industry custom build (only had it finished for a few months) to make the down payment for the trip, and over the last year I've been slowly building a tiny ITX system to fit in a small cabin. So, I've already laid down quite a few chips on this gamble, and I am giving it everything I've got to make it happen. I had been working on all the aid/scholarship paperwork for some time, when I lost it all during a file backup I had to scramble to redo all of it and was awake for... idk... 2-3 days straight redoing 40 pages of essays and forms. All out sprint. Everything had to be received by a certain date, and there was simply no physical way I could get it done even in time for overnight shipping. The guy who saved my butt: So, I had this crazy idea. I emailed a friend from the forums who I'd bought and sold stuff with, and we had been friends on Facebook and chatted a little in the past... I knew he lived in the same state as the university that runs the program. I asked if he was nearby and would be willing to print out and mail the materials early in the morning in hopes they would arrive by the deadline. This was late the night before. He got back to me and said not only that he'd do it, but that he would DRIVE the paperwork there himself to guarantee it actually arrived in time. It was an hour and a half drive. He used his phone to keep tabs on addresses and directions. We coordinated on a print shop and he drove there to pick it up. I was running late getting it formatted for the printer (had been awake a very, very long time) and he was very patient. We talked it over on the phone and he was extremely polite and gracious about the whole thing. Finally everything printed out at a shop near the school, he picked it up, and hand-delivered it to the office before they closed. These are all places he had never visited and had to find on the fly. I am still absolutely amazed that someone actually did this to help me, and that the logistics of the plan actually succeeded. There is no way I could have done this without Slagar's help. Sometimes he might say things with, I guess you could say, a "dark" or mysterious edge, but don't be fooled. He is really a polite upstanding guy and I just wanted everyone to know what an awesome thing he did to help me. The number of nice, helpful people I've met on these forums continues to astound me, and even among all of those, Slagar really stands out. If I get enough money to go on this life-changing trip, it will only be because he saved the day! A round of applause for Slagar!

Slagar has been around here a long time, and has helped, and has been helped more than once. This was truely above and beyond however, and my hat is off to this member of our family. Good luck warthorn, and I think a blue ribbon for Slagar is the least this community can do for his help.

I'm not surprised we haven't heard from Slagar. He didn't do this for the recognition, and I'm sure that now he is reluctant to post and have a bunch of us heaping praise on him for something he did form the heart.

Possible (that was the reason i didn't suggest anything about BRs at first), although i'm guessing he's just busy. I sent him something to make him aware of the thread. Even if he didn't want to post for some reason he'd probably have sent me an email/message by now. Hasn't posted here in several days.
