HI guys, so like many here that wanted the hybrid ti , I finally ordered .

Here is what's going on while I was waiting I was looking everywhere including Craigslist my thinking was if the kit comes in Stock first buy that and get a reference, well I have someone that can sell me a reference ti for $400 so the question is what would you guys do ? Keep the hybrid ti ($816 total) or try to install the kit ($524 total card+kit) . I wonder how hard it is to install the kit , never done it before.

Also the hybrid is already oc while the reference is stock at 1000mhz... darn what to do .

$300 saved is a lot of money. The kit is not hard to install at all, just have to be patient to not strip the screws on the card while removing the stock shroud. True the default boost clock of the hybrid is about 150mhz higher. But, you are 99.9% likely to be able to OC a reference vanilla Ti to the boost clock of the hybrid. They are exactly the same card, except the hybrid has the sweet cooler and backplate, and *may* be able to OC a bit higher, not definitive. Another factor is warranty. The 980 Ti hybrid card warranty is standard 3 years. The warranty on the hybrid cooling kit is 1 year, although you won't void the 3 year warranty of the reference card that you put the cooling kit on unless you damage the card while doing so.

A red flag would be raised in my mind though, why is the guy selling a brand new $650 card for $400? If you are confident the seller of the reference Ti is legit / not shady, and not selling you a lemon it may be worth it.

Yup I was skeptical but actually how this started was I saw a guy selling the acer xb270hu monitor for $550 , I sent him an email and he agreed for $450 , I told him I would only buy if I can see it working and he said come to my apt and test it , anyways while there he told me he is selling all his pc parts (he has 2 ti) etc and I played with the monitor and cards installed , purchased the monitor and only agreed to sell me 1 ti for $400 cause I had purchased his monitor.

The duse if anything is totally cool he gave me the Newegg invoice with full info so I can register the monitor with Acer.

Well I think I'm going to try to install the kit then , hope is not hard and just return the hybrid sealed to evga .

Well I got the reference card for $400 =) scored 13998 Firestrike , ASIC is 69 though but I applied a mild overclock +152 / +402 and not a single problem.  Now I should be receiving both my hybrid kit and hybrid ti on tuesday and I'm going to try to install the kit and save money by returning the Hybrid Ti back to EVGA.  I hope is not too difficult or I ruin anything , I looked for videos and there wasn't much help.  I'm just concerned about which screwdrivers I need exactly.

Oh one more question guys!  The card is PNY the Hybrid kit should work with all reference cards correct?  Now what about EVGA backplate? are they compatible with non EVGA reference cards?

I prefer to get the 980 ti hybrid so that way I don't have to deal with changing stuff out and purchasing additional things that may not come with it.

I'm with you for the most part but after seeing that I couls save $300 I think it might be worth trying it and learning anyways.

For me is same...Off course it's better EVGA Hybrid immediately... Everyone should look Hybrid package on You Tube, I couldn't sit on chair calm looking video...
But if no other options and nobody know when Hybrid will be available and SC option + Hybrid cooler are available I would not wait.

As far as VGA cards I personally only run EVGA or XFX, but XFX no longer makes NVIDIA cards. XFX also carries lifetime warranty on their cards if you register within 30 days, well not sure if they still do.

For me is 3 years warranty enough for graphic cards and motherboards.
If they work stable in 3 years period I don't ask nothing more...

See, for me it's about being able to speak to somebody who is American and not have to speak to somebody that has a horrible foreign accent. It's generally why I avoid: MSI, Gigabyte and ASUS.
