Just installed a new Acer XB270HU monitor with my 980s SLI today. Everything works fine but the top card idles at 1012MHz instead of 135 that I am used to. Corresponding temp at idle is 35C. Is this due to the new native resolution of this monitor at 2560x1440 or something like that? Old monitor was a 1920x resolution. What's the problem here? Thanks.

    Hi Hopper64,

I can confirm that this is normal since you are now running at 144 Hz refresh.

I was running at 144 with the old monitor too, but it was at 1920x... Is it the higher resolution and refresh rate that causes this? Thanks.
BTW-The second card is at 135MHz as usual.

Oh, just changed the RR to 120 and the top card decreased to 135MHz immediately. Thanks.

Change desktop refresh rate to 120Hz & set power management mode under global settings inside the nvidia control panel to adaptive. Reboot PC. Should be good to go now.

Yep. Power management mode was already on adaptive. Just changed the RR to 120 and we're OK now. Thanks for the help as always.

Yes higher resolution + refresh rate needs a higher pixel clock and thus a higher idle clockspeed.

Noticed a new problem with this. Most common game I play is IL2 Battle of Stalingrad and noticed after playing the game that it must make the RR change in the Nvidia CP back to 144. I have seen this happen several times now. I have set the RR in the game to 120 and applied that change in the game. But when I check the Nvidia CP, it is back to 144 on the RR. ?? Is this a game bug?? Thanks.

Sounds like a bug. Does this happen with any of your other games?

Ok. You should try a clean install of the latest nvidia driver to see if it helps.

Stupid mistake. Reinstalled and noticed in my program tab settings in the Nvidia CP that I had "Highest Available" for the refresh rate instead of "Application Controlled". Dumb Dumb me. Thanks for the help.

Thanks. Guess reinstalling the same driver won't harm anything.
