Recently I upgraded from an EVGA 590 Classified to the EVGA 980Ti Classified ACX 2.0+. Every so often and not on any regular basis and while surfing the internet or doing checking e-mails my monitor will flicker 5-6 times or more, then the screen goes black for about 3 seconds then everything is fine for a while. I have not noticed it in gaming yet. The flickering and blackout seem to be increasing in frequency and duration. When I installed the card, I used the drive sweeper application for a new card, shut down, installed the card then booted up, installed the most current Nvidia drivers and Physx. Yesterday, I reinstalled the same current Nvidia ones. I am using the DVI connection for the monitor. Even tried reinstalling the latest set of chipset drivers for the motherboard.

Does anybody have any ideas on what I might try next?

Thanks in advance.

Try resetting your CMOS by flipping the jumper.  I just updated my rig from a pair of GTX 560's and ran into a bunch of issues when installing my new GTX 980 TI Classified today.

Flipping my CMOS jumper was the cure.

Good luck!

That's probably some driver problem.
But just in case you can try to connect card with other Display Port or even better DVI or HDMI.
Only to change on few days to see maybe flickering stop.
And you should ask in mean time and on GeForce forum, I saw there before some time several people complain on black screen,
flickering, mostly GM200 chip.
In that moment when black screen happen you should check and Administrative Tools, Even Viewer, maybe you have some warning or message there for that moment.
It's important to always install drivers manual not update and best only PhysX and Display Driver.

Thank you dryja123 and Vlada011. Those are good suggestions and I will try them. Before I do though, I have a couple of stupid questions and they may be a stupid ones so forgive me.
The monitor and card specs are:
Monitor: HDMI 1.3, Display Port 1.1a, DVI-D with HDCP inputs.
Card:     HDMI 2.0, Display Port 1.2,   Dual-link DVI outputs.

I am using the cable that came with the monitor.
  • Could this be causing any compatibility issues with DVI-D vs DVI-link?
  • If the cable developed an intermittent short, would it look like a jumping screen and then a boot screen refresh do you think?

Make sure you GPU is fully seated - locked into the PCIe slot.

Make sure GPU is fully supported and secured with a screw to the case and does not sag.

Re-seat your PCIe power connections to the GPU.

This is the rig in your signature?

Does your MB support PCIe 3.0 ?  Is it set to "Auto"?  Try manually setting it to 3.0 if supported or 2.0 if not

Re: 980Ti Classified ACX 2 Flicker Issue - FIXED 2016/02/14 11:11:11 (permalink)
Update.
It appears to be fixed [for now]. Switched to HDMI from DVI. All of the folks who responded had really good ideas. It was nice that this time the simplest solution actually worked.  That doesn't happen to me much. It was nice to know that there were options, too though just in case. Thank you all of taking the time to help me out.  I won't forget it.

Cool GTX.  That is my rig in the signature. PCIe is only 2.0. My MB is too ancient and going through the bios I did not fine a way to adjust the PCIe slots at all.
I did go back and re-seat everything. You reminded me that I need to give EVGA some more money and upgrade soon. Thank you.

dryja123. Your CMOS re-set is a good option if things go back to the way they were.  I will certainly try it. Thank you.

Vlada011. I tried the different cable and unbelievably it worked. Thank you for all of your other suggestions, too.  Your Admin Tool pointed me to the fact that there were no errors and so it make the decision to swap cables a more obvious one.
