I was one of the lucky ones who got the kit. Pretty easy to install and good instructions on how to do it. Just a piece of advice about the tool's you use to take a part the gpu make sure they are nice ones. I did not have the right tools and used my friends cheep ones he had and almost striped one of the screws so I went and bought a Dewalt set it was way worth the money for the tiny bits.

Now under full load never got above 40c also with a higher over clock as well. BTW my card was a 980 ti sc referance that I put the hybrid kit on.

Core clock at a 220mhz stable
memory clock at 500mhz stable

I was really pleased with how simple the install was as well.  I had every torx bit except the T6 that was needed and had to locate one.  Not buying a $1 tool to work on an expensive component is sound advice.

And it did wonders on my X for temps as it did for your Ti.

I guess I'm unlucky as I have two 1.5MM Hex precision drivers that do not seem to fit, like a hair too large. I don't have anything smaller so I had to order a set(ranging from .7 to 3mm) from amazon. Keeping fingers crossed. Instructions seem very straight forward though.

Just got my 980 Ti Hybrid kit and I'm stuck on the 1.5mm hex screws.

The first 1.5mm hex wrench I tried to use was a hair too large as you described. Just spent an hour going to Lowe's and buying a Kobalt set of hex wrenches, came home and its 1.5mm wrench is too small and just spins in the screw without applying any torque. I'm not going to push it since I don't want to risk stripping any of the screws.

Ugh! Did you have any luck with the set you bought on Amazon?

Everything was going fine with my install and then I got to Step 6 where you remove the 4 screws on the center of the shroud that are #000 Philips. Almost instantly the screws stripped and I could not continue with the shroud removal. I called EVGA support to see what could be done and to my surprise they approved an RMA of my card since it is just the screws that are bad and the card itself is not at all damaged. Was expecting to have to ship my card and the hybrid kit to EVGA for them to install it, and would've gladly paid for the service had they agreed to do it. So my hybrid kit will be sitting in its box for the next week or so, but I'm not complaining. EVGA really didn't have to help me out (and maybe shouldn't have?) and I'm grateful for the service. This is why I continue to buy from you guys and although I was on the fence about going SLI this time around, part of my decision to do so now is because you deserve the business. Although this time I'll buy the proper 980Ti hybrid when it becomes more widely available.

Doesn't do any good if you can't get the stripped screw out from the card prior to even touching the kit.

Worst comes to worst, you can cut a slot in the head and use a flat screwdriver.

Heating up the screw by placing a soldering iron on the screw head usually helps to loosen up the thread locker on the screw threads.

I ended up ordering the Wiha 26390 Precision Screwdriver set from Amazon and the 1.5mm fits perfectly. It took ages to get a hybrid kit so no sense in rushing to use a ill fitted tool to try and get the job done.

I ended up going to Sears and bought two sets of Craftsman hex wrenches and they worked on the 1.5mm hex screws on the first try, so I was able to get past that step, though it was annoying that I ended up buying 3 sets of screwdrivers to do so. Guess the Kobalt set I bought first was just a bad batch or something because the 1.5mm in that was clearly the wrong size.

Moving on to Step 6 I had a similar problem with those 4 screws also. It was my own fault, since I was using what I believe was a #0 Philips screwdriver (not a #000); I got three of them out but the fourth wouldn't budge and I managed to strip it pretty badly. I ended up drilling into it with the smallest drill bit I had and the head of the screw came off cleanly, allowing me to then lift up the shroud and continue on with the install.

Not the greatest solution but since it was the last of the 4 screws, and I was already frustrated by having gotten stuck on the hex screws earlier in the day, I just went for it and luckily didn't screw anything else up by getting the drill involved.

It was pretty smooth sailing after that and I've got the hybrid kit all installed in my case now (along with a backplate and a sweet new EVGA 1000W 80+ Platinum PSU I grabbed at 50% off with the video card promo) and it's amazing; overclocked to 1.5GHz the card hasn't topped 45C. In retrospect, the install was a little more work than I expected (mostly due to my lacking the right tools at the start) and I probably should have waited and just bought a preinstalled hybrid card, but I really wanted a 980 Ti ASAP so I ended up buying a reference card on day one and I'm glad that at least I had the option to add hybrid cooling to it after the fact.

Glad it worked out. I ended up trying a larger Phillips screwdriver to get those 4 screws out and sure enough it worked.

So is this kit considered unacceptable for the 980 Ti AIO cooler install? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MF754W?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 It was recommended in another thread and I picked it up off amazon. Just got it yesterday, but after seeing negative results in this thread I opted not to go through with attempting the install if the tools are going to damage the card. Any advice?

That's the kit I got and posted about. For the most part it worked really well, just the Step 6 part with the 4 screws (#000 Phillips) that attach the center piece of the shroud was difficult because the screws strip very easily. Not sure if it was due to the tool kit or too much force on my part. But the rest of the install went off without a hitch using these tools.

Anyone know if the 980ti with the ACX cooler on it is still considered reference?  I find it a little noisy, and would like the additional cooling of the Hyprid cooler.

hmm, got it (after seeing it from your previous post) to install a kit on my TX, and went smoothly. Although I was surprised to find on my card that some hex screws were barely even tightened and probably could have fallen out just by looking at them wrong.

the ACX cooler is not reference, only the blower style (hamster wheel) cooler is. The reference radial fan w/baseplate is needed in conjunction with the liquid cooling kit.

The kit worked fine for me in the end. Just be very careful and patient especially with Step 6, those screws seemed the most fragile for me. I didn't use enough force on top of them and instead I twisted a bit too quickly and wound up stripping them a bit. Nothing else was even close to being stripped or damaged. I ended up using a different screwdriver for those 4 screws instead of the #000 Phillips because of that. But the buggers came right out as soon as I went a size up. I wonder if the #000 Phillips in the manual is a mistake? Curious what other people used at that step.

Okay cool, thanks jlp.  I'll probably pick up that set and maybe a separate wiha #000 just in case.  The hex bits worked good though?  The wiha's seem to be the best but $40 or $50 just for the few I need, maybe over the top.

Thanks man, I ended up picking two tool kits to be safe and lucky I did because one of them didn't hold the bits in and was too plasticy and flimsy and you're right about the 000, it was too small.  I ended up using at least the 00 I think to get those out and had a tough time with the 1.5 hex, it seemed like I was stripping them but it wasn't and they all came out.

Everything else went fine, I install my hybrid and the pump wire was not fully connected, had to uninstall and take the whole thing apart again but it was well worth it.  Temps under 50 degrees after a couple hours gaming and it's quiet...well worth the price in my opinion.

I ended up going to Walmart and I bought the 44 piece precision bits set. It had everything I needed and it cost me about $5.

Those two kits I bought were $10 each but one of them didn't work, the other was really good for that price....Delco or something like that.

Glad you got it installed and running! Agreed, probably the best $100 I've spent in a long time. I love the hybrid cooler more and more as the days go by.
