Hi everyone, I've been testing out this card and I've been having some temp issues even with a custom fan curve.

With a frame limit of 60 fps I get temps that are about 70 to 75 and with the frame lock off it spikes up to 84 with the fan @ 100%

Is this normal? Is this safe for long term use or am I going to end up ruining this card if I run it as is.

Thanks : )

My fans get to max 60% and my cards max temps are 79-80C. My room is very hot 28C. Your card should not be at 84C when the fans are at 100%. My max temps are 69-70C when the fans are at 100% and that is with an overclock of 1,4GHz, TDP at 110% and +87mV.

There must be something wrong with your card. If I were you I would re-apply the thermal compound and see id that helps. How is your airfolw in the case?

It would be beneficial to know what you are doing while hitting those frames.  Running games?  Benchmarking?  Watching a movie?

It is absolutely normal in the general sense.  Creating more frames is more work for the GPU.  Unnecessary if you are on a 60Hz monitor.  As far as damage, the card limits itself when you hit any caps.  Run GPU-Z and under the sensors tab, see what throttle limits it hits.  Is it temperature?  Voltage?

What are your system specs?  Do you have good air flow in your case?  Are you overclocking?

    We need more information, please.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.
    It's a qmicra v2 case.
    Core i5 2500k stock atm
    Matx mobo asus gene-z z68
    16gb Kingston hyper x ram
    Corsair HX750 watt power supply.

Gaming is what gets the temps so hot if I don't lock the fps.

Cpu cooler is a corsair h100i gtx

2 fans are for the rad and 1 for exhaust. I'm thinking I might need a new case.

This case came out before the days of beastly cards

It's going to get hot while gaming.  What is the ambient room temperature? Have you tried take the side off the case to see if that helps lower your temps?

Small form factor case and an ACX dumping heat into the case can be a problem in and of itself depending on your fan setup.  And you are even more restricted depending on the configuration of your 240MM radiator for the CPU.

I will try running the card this evening after work with out the top and sides and see what kind of temps I'm getting. Do you guys believe I've caused any permant damage?

    Thanks again!

No, you haven't caused any damage.  The card throttles when it gets too hot.

I don't imagine you have done any damage unless you have had some heat shutdowns.  The system protects itself, including that card.  You would have just seen some throttling.

So you have intake on your radiator?  That is even more hot air into the case.  If it is exhaust, then you have no active intake and three exhaust.  Also not good.  I new tower/case may well be warranted.

Thanks everyone I will try the card with the case off this evening.
No thermal shutdowns yet haha thank goodness.

Time to start looking at some mid tower cases!
