hey all, I've had my 980 Classified 3988 for a month now and every now and then, games keep crashing and i keep getting either DXGI errors, game will just lock up then it will say that windows recovered drivers, but my gpu will be stuck in 2D clock state (around 500MHZ unless i restart the computer) and its happening more and more. my temps are not going past 67C while gaming. i dont have the card overclocked. i did try overclocking when i first got it (only 70mhz+ to core) and it did the same thing as it does now. random driver crashes.  I've done a clean install via the nvidia drivers as well as with DDU in safe mode.  still happens. :( i also have a fresh install of windows (because i also upgraded to X99 the same time i got my 980) 

i wanted to know if i should file a RMA? or if others were having this.  at first i was a little upset that i could not even get +70mhz on the core, but figured whatever the stock boost clock is high as it is for a 980 ill just run it stock. now its like the card is not stable at stock clocks :(  could have saved $130 and bought a reference card :(  I just checked my order history on newegg and i bought the card 38 days ago (8 days past newegg's 30 day return/replace policy. should i give newegg a call or email and see if they can throw me a bone or just go through evga? (i really don't feel like paying $20 bucks to ship this card from ny to cali then wait a 2 weeks to get a replacement :( ) ground shipping from cali to me takes a week to get here and i dont have a back up card :/ 

what are your thoughts?

I would think that your Intel Core I7 5820K @ 4.3ghz  overclock may be the issue or unstable as it may.
What Driver are you on?
If you reset your Motherboard back to the Default or Optimized Settings do you still have errors and also what is the Error Codes?
BSOD Code that is, if you need a viewer for your Memory Dump file I use BlueScreenView
If you do not get any BSOD Errors while you are at the Default or Optimized Settings then you are most likely fine.
Your PSU maybe a little low to overclock the Classified Models and the CPU at the same time.

ill try setting my cpu back to stock but i dont see how my cpu overclock would be crashing the graphics drivers? 

Did you tried 3DMark Firestrike.
Set fan manual on 80-100% and leave loop 1h.
Disable Demo some people with series 900 say they have crash with Demo and can't fix that.

Look in the Folder C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG
 
An unstable Overclocking of the CPU will crash the Video Driver.

this is what I've found in that folder. looks like nvidia driver's crashing. not sure what to look for to tell if its my  cpu causing it.

I have 2666 mhz ddr4 ram. for some reason, with X99, when i set XMP to that speed, my BCLK goes to 125. not sure why. should i just manually set it to 100 and adjust my core multiplier?.  i think i've read somewhere that messing with the BCLK messes with all bus speeds (pci, sata, and so on) could that be whats doing it? 

You have read correctly... Bclk should be at 100-105. Running that high of Blck will cause corruption of bus lanes.

Strap should be close to blck. However I would set your blck and strap to 100 or auto and retest your gpu overclock...

Start over on your Bios Set it back to the Default settings and you might as well update to 1.15 1.16 now that it is out.
Press and hold the small red button on the Motherboard or the back of the computer's I/P Panel and hold for 4 or 5 seconds as you power on your computer and then let go. This will clear all the Bios Settings. Bios Wayback Button if I remember on the ASUS MB.

Ok I manually set the cpu strap and bclk back to 100 last night. Same ram and cache speeds as before just with different multiplier settings.

Everything so far so good played 2 hours of bf4 and 2 hours of evolve last night no issues so far. Even did it with 80+ on the core of the gpu just to be crazy lol and everything perfect.

I'll be gamin tonight and I'll be testing it out and seeing how it goes. Hopefully everything Works perfect tonight

I don't think its your CPU overclock at all, I'm having the same issue with 980 Classifieds and also 980 Matrix, I think it has to do with the 980 custom PCB cards and the drivers.  
 
I've reinstalled my 780 Ti KPE's and have not had an issue since.
FWIW, I'm running my CPU at 4.8GHz core and 4.8GHz cache.

I was thinking that as well. i had a Ref 780 Ti, (it was overclocked to at least 1300mhz (boost) ) never had issues.  also, i'm running display port on my monitor (gsync monitor) and every once in a while, im getting the black screen (no signal) issue with this 980 that i NEVER had with my Ti. and it happens before i even hit windows it happens during post. the computer will post and not show the screen showing the bios splash screen (where you can press Delete to get into bios). but i can hear my computer booting into windows fine. i have to restart the computer to get the monitor to display something.  its very annoying.

nice CPU, I can't get much past 4.4 cache on mine, and it's the best of three I've had
