I have a faulty EVGA 980 Ti Superclocked graphics card with backplate. The shop I bought it from doesn't seem to stock the backplate version any more, but for the sake of not going through the RMA process I don't think I'll mind the non-backplate version. There seems to be mixed opinions on backplates online, my question is, does the EVGA 980 Ti SC+ act as a true heatsink for the RAM or is it more likely to trap heat? I think I'll be quite happy to 'downgrade' just to be able to get a quick swap. Does anyone have any facts on this matter? Thanks :)

I noticed no difference in heat when I added my back played. They have thermal padding which dissipates beat.

the backplates do supply some minimal passive cooling for the GPU. 3 to 5c drop in temps.
backplates are primarily used for extra support for the gpu when motherboards are mounted vertically (90% of the time) the pcb's will tend to "sage or bend" over time from the weight,
especially when after market water blocks or heaver air coolers are installed, such as the ACX.
however the ACX 2.0 cooler does have an additional mid-plate for cooling and does supply a bit of extra support, and weight

    I hope this helps,

My general experience for the last 3-4 generation of cards (EVGA) my temps go up 3-5degrees when I add a backplate.

Thanks for your responses.. seems like opinions are as mixed as ever but I'm veering on the it makes them hotter, unless your case has good airflow. I think I'll go for one without a backplate unless I can get an official answer from somrwhere
