According to one of the main staff members over at overclockers.co.uk known as Gibbo, I'm sure plenty of us know who he is.
The Fury X is beaten by the 980 Ti in synthetic benchmarks and nearly on par with the 980 Ti in games.

And here he is with his kind of messy test rig -

I am rooting for AMD we need competition badly but not just on the CPU front...

Faster is relative, give us 120fps/1440p/120Hz on a single gpu already. I just don't see 4/8K being playable anytime soon....

Well what he is saying then or hinting is the FuryX is faster in Games but not benchmarks, that's all that honestly matters, real world>synthetic benchmarks.  Benchmarks are fun, but the majority of people buying top tier gpus are more or less on the gamer end there are more gamers than gamers/overclockers and overclockers combined, proof of that is just the pre-built pc industry alone. Hopefully the benchmarks in a couple days will reveal all and put this to rest, if the FuryX lives up to what AMD promised I will probably get one for gaming and put my Titan as my alternate screen display that I do all my modeling and 3d work on especially if EVGA is selling Bstock Titans for 700.... and ebay they are selling for 500+

Well both Nvidia and AMD are now offering a higher resolution rendering for lower resolution displays, I love playing my games at 4k on DSR with my Titan.

You're mistaken bud, Read it again, He said the Fury X is very very close to the G1 in gaming, As in the G1 gaming is still ahead by a very slight amount.

Gigabytes pre-oced GTX 980 TI. With an MSRP of $689.99, if rumors are right for the FuryX having a 650 MSRP at the same rate as a regular 980 TI, it will be faster than a 980 TI, will come with a backplate, those of us who do 3d modeling will be able to model on it, and comes with a liquid cooler. So now its wait on the reviews to see if its all true, and if the targeted MSRP is true. If it is AMD has a winner.

Yes the G1 is faster in gaming but AFAIK he had it clocked to around 1400 on the core which is easy for any 980 Ti to do, I'll try and find the post again.

I just wanna see what this HBM is capable of

Should about sum up most questions Faster than a vanilla GTX 980 TI, but not faster than a Gigabyte G1 GTX 980 TI, no way to mess with voltage atm since its locked, guy got a 1200 oc out of it with no voltage changes but didn't report the speed increases against the G1 so we are left to wonder.  Runs cool, Interesting times indeed. Title of the post should be Gigabytes G1 GTX 980 Ti Faster Than Fury X

Nice job on post hunting, some good info there :)

Most important bit for me as a potential buyer is this-

**I think Fury will be a huge hit, it rivals a stock Ti/Titan especially at 4k gaming, but cost less, is quieter, runs cooler and looks so damn good.**

Yeah dont get me wrong I love nvidia, anyone who has been here long enough know I am a huge nvidia fanboy, but for Nvidia to strip out their geforce logical processing cores to try and force my market segment to buy quadros/tesla cards, and when that failed the Titan came to be with a 1k price tag.... Salt in the wound honestly I have used nvidia gpus since 2006, and had 1 radeon mobile gaming gpu in 2005, and one backup radeon gaming gpu in between all of that, before that I was strictly 3DFX used my voodoo 5 5500 until the end of 2004.

If this all holds true, I will probably switch teams... I will not pay 1k for a TitanX. I refused to pay that much with the Titans all of them, had to wait to get a GTX Titan Signature used just so I could do my 3d modeling again without crashing while I waited until the price was right, lots of nerd raging fits as maya crashed.. thanks nvidia. I guess its old age you get tired of spending 700-1k on gpus then to have the main feature stripped out that you used after accustomed to paying 500 tops was the hump that broke the camels back. I cringe at the thought of how much I spent on 1k cpus and 1k gpus over the years these days hahaha.

I see the Fury and the Furyx being a huge hit honestly, I think this is the competition we have all been waiting for and desperately needing. But we wont find out fully until a couple days lets just hope that post, and the stuff floating all around is true.

Synthetic benchmarks tend to use the processor more than the memory bandwidth, so no duh the faster GM200 against Fiji-XT would win without the faster HBM being used against slower GDDR5.  Even the 3Dmark11 Performance preset is locked at 1280x720 and the Extreme preset is locked at 1920x1080p-- these are both CPU-bound resolutions.  To expect AMD to do well in these scenarios is diluted.

But with games, not all are created equal nor does everyone play them at the same detail and resolution.  We can't just use a one-size-fits-all "obvious" conclusion between these two cards, so why do some folks insist on that?

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

If it outperforms a Gigabyte G1 GTX 980 TI then yes, if not then no. 102mhz is not going to be revolutionary. A G1 pretty much wipes the floor of the Titanx. But I will say this techpowerup is shady or obsessively lazy they use old benchmark scores without updating drivers on past scores why? Look at dates of their reviews like the new whatever plus 980 TI pre-oced card then look at the article I linked with all the driver updates from NVIDIA with performance improving with the more refined drivers the cards all got the same scores again umm I think not.

Put a GTX TItanX SC/HC/Whatever in front of me, and if what is shown so far to be True with the AMD FuryX and I was told I had to buy one or the other I would go with the FuryX.

    Why?
I can model with it as well
    it comes with liquid cooling
    It comes with a backplate
    its silent
it runs stupid cool on a self contained unit
It will get at least or around a 1200mhz clock without touching the voltage
My Display does not have HDMI 2.0
Only other con amd drivers with multi gpu configs on some GPU configs, and there has not been a whql driver in awhile...

If the card performs better later with better drivers and forces nvidia to drop the price a little 100-200 dollars say for example of the TitanX you as a consumer win, that is something we need right now, because of amd you could very well get a cheaper brand new GTX TitanX cheaper, also used titan sales would go down finally, letting everyone win. the 980 TI's become more affordable, the 980's the 970's will be a good time for gamers to get an upgrade, new or used.

Now if I only had a display with a DVI or HDMI 2.0 port and had that to choose from that would also change my buying decision and influence it.

Take a look at this review of the G1 if you don't believe me http://www.techpowerup.co...80_Ti_G1_Gaming/1.html

Those saying the G1 is unfair since it is OCed have not looked up the performance difference of the G1 vs the 980ti ref.  A massive 1 or 2 fps higher at 4k resolution, and 4 to 5 fps at 1440... That changes nothing in the real world, as most people won't even notice.

I don't have access to my YouTube, but JayZTwoCents did a video, and quite frankly, the extra cost for the factory overclock doesn't net much in the world of results from what I could see from his charts at the end.

Yeah Scarlet-Tech pre-oced does not matter much these days, I know it used to matter with the 8800 Ultra top models, the SSC the FTW series once upon a time, these days not so much. the G1 980 TI is a different monster though in its own right putting the smack down on the TitanX.

Yeah lephron for me now its Game performance/cost on a card I can model on 3d>synthetic benchmarks.

And a damned Rip-off those things are, only insane ppl use those unless of Vram size, and a bit more Processing power. Only ppl that do 3D modeling should waste such money. Vram and Processing power do count, but Neither Nvidia nor AMD has a good Ethical right to charge 1k a pop or over that.

I must educate myself about HMB, as 4gigs are terrible, unless it's just changed to 8gigs again. It's late, and it's way past my bed-time. to look at all these links.

But We know that Nvidia will be using HMB to soon to.

I think the two card will be equals (FuryX and 980TI) or too close to call in real world games. What will make this first gen of HBM cards stand out is the small compact size, single PCIe slot, and built in water cooler (and the flood of cheap 4k freesync monitors over the past two weeks).

If two cards are same power than GTX980Ti is better shopping because more video memory and PhysX and If someone used on GeForce it's very hard to change side.
He need really really good reason. Even than rather pay more for GeForce than to try something new. AMD long time ignore problems of customers and what they experienced with CCC and in games, long time. They drivers didn't work on good way at all.
I even think they were unable to write better before some serious change in graphic processor design.
