Hello EVGA forum members!
Just like many of you I have just learned that Nvidia is going to be releasing their new card on the 2nd.
Can any old timers here tell me what the best method of preordering these cards is? How long after the announcement will we be able to hit the buy button on sites such as EVGA or Newegg?
What are your tips for getting the first batch? :)
Thank you and have a great day.
 Let the wallet bleed....

Once they release, you can expect new egg and Amazon to do pre-orders, Ebay to set up Robbery schemes and EVGA to do a first come first serve basis. All of them require you to be quick on your toes. Hell, eBay may already have the Robbery schemes up if you want to grab one from there.

Pretty much this. You won't see preorder info pop up or a vendor even acknowledging the cards release (if June 2nd is correct) until its actually confirmed.  I do hope it is sometime before July as I'll just step-up from my 980 to the 980 TI assuming they're not changing the trend since they did allow it for the 780 to 780 ti.

Well, it does state that it must be a different gpu, like 970 to 980. 980 to 980ti would make sense, because gm104 to gm200 is a different die and name. I would think they will, but expect a minimum of a week before step up is populated, at least.

P.S. I will bet you one of my spare sleeved cables for a G2 EVGA power supply (molex with floppy driver connector... Lol) that within 48 hours of the announcement, there is a minimum of one thread asking where the step up option is.

I'm referencing this old article so hopefully they continue with that approach. If not I'll probably just keep my 980 SC and wait for the next big thing or I may just say screw it and buy one since it appears I'll be sticking with my current rig for awhile as the skylake leaks if true are pretty underwhelming outside of the mobile realm.

The die is completely different. You wouldn't be stepping up in the same line, which the 780-780ti kind of was, but not fully since it was an unlocked core vs a cut down core.

Heck, look at the 970 step up options. That was such a cluster that every single gpu could be stepped up, lol. The 980 was never the case, of course.

Yeah well I'd say the 970 was a special case considering the outrage over that 3.5GB lol. I had a 970 FTW briefly but dumped it because of the coil whine. Glad I did so before the storm hit.  Sadly my 980 FTW didn't do much better but luckily the 980 SC has done just fine.

Hell If the AMD 390X looks appealing I might even try to give AMD  a try again.

Correction, the step up options for the 970 line up was available before the ram thing was known. 970ftw+ came out before that and had nothing to do with it. I think the 970ftw+ was the correction for the 970ftw,and why they opened up the step up for so many people.

Ah never really noticed I suppose. I only brought up the 970 FTW since I owned one briefly. At any rate can't wait to see the news on the 980TI and this supposed 980/990 ''metal'' card

I hope the metal cards come with guitar strings and a long hair band wig.
