I just upgraded from 470SLI to a 970SC. I also upgraded to a Samsung 28" 4K monitor. I  did a fresh install of everything after reformatting my HHD. I was in 4K heaven for 4 days playing WoW on ultra settings . Yesterday I started to get BSOD & freeze ups. I tried several things, but the winning combo seems to be lowering my resolution to 1440, lowering my settings from ultra to high, using Precision to add a little more juice (12mV) & changing my fan curve so that it ramps up significantly after 65c. I was able to play a few hours tonight without crashes. I hope to go back to 4K tomorrow & ramp back up to ultra settings again. I haven't loaded Guild Wars 2 yet, but I imagine it's even tougher on my VGA than WoW.

Should I be having this problem? Am I expecting too much from this card? Is my voltage solution okay for a year or two? Is getting another card for SLI going to be my best solution for 4K gaming in the long run? I was hoping to get by with this single card until at least the next generation is released.

A 970 is really not adequate for 4K gaming 'in my personal opinion' unless you have two cards in SLI. Even then there will be a couple of games that will have a impact if they use more than 4GB of video ram.

In my personal opinion an SLI of two 980ti cards is ideal for 4K gaming. Crysis 3 as an example plays very well on a 4K monitor with two 980ti cards. With a single 980ti card it will play ok with many of the major graphics settings turned down or you play the game at 2560 x 1440.

He is talking about playing WoW though, which is not nearly as demanding of a game.  He should be able to get 80+ fps @4k ultra settings with a 970.

During the four days it did run, it was a smooth 100fps. I wasn't monitoring temps. I can't pony up $1K for 980sli. Thanks for the link MBP, I'm hoping the added voltage and cooling will allow me to run 4k at ultra, we'll see later today.

I've been playing FFXIII @ 4K for weeks. But that is not a very demanding title either. I get a smooth 60 fps playing Batman AK, TW3 (1440p) and FFXIII (2160p) with v-sync and triple buffering turned on.

If you're not going to play the most demanding games the 970 is fine but go for two of these in SLI if you're able to do so and then play the most demanding games. That is what will make your 4K monitor shine.

Forgot v-vsync, turned it back on & it seems to help with the crashes. I'll play around some more tomorrow. Thanks!

I'm still having problems with bsod & crashing. I turned down the resolution to 1080 & the performance, but it doesn't help. Sometimes I can play for 4 hours, but then it starts crashing frequently. I switched back  to my GTX 470s last night & it hasn't crashed once. I tried the newest drivers, uninstalled & used driver sweeper in safe mode. I think I have a bad card.

I know this may seem obvious to some here, but Tech Support responded to my email with the following.

WoW and a few other games are known to have problems with factory overclocked cards. I would recommend opening NVIDIA Control Panel, click Help, and then enable Debug Mode; this will lower the clockrate to reference speeds. If you're still crashing after this, let us know and we'll be happy to get you a replacement.

This seems to have fixed my problem & I wanted to post it up in case someone else experiences the same difficulty. Thanks EVGA.
