Hello EVGA Community,

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge, but I am curious as to why people are going for the 970 FTW over the 980 SC ACX 2.0?  I have read a few threads and seems like quite a few people want the 970FTW over the 980 SC ACX 2.0.  From what I understand, the 980 SC ACX 2.0 is the top card, which is what I was "sold" on and plan on purchasing.  I see from a money stand point that it is a $200 difference; however, is the 970 FTW potentially better than the 980 SC ACX 2.0?  Am I misunderstanding it?  Any clairifcation would be great to help make my choice more clear!

**UPDATE: I just called my local Microcenter and they have stock of the 980 SC ACX 2.0 card, but not the 970FTW.  Recommendations if I should pick up the 980 SC ACX 2.0 or wait for the 970FTW to come back in stock?

Thanks!

Performance wise the GTX 980SC should be better than a GTX 970FTW but many people are watching their budgets. Read this review and you'll see that the EVGA GTX 970 FTW is one heck of a video card with fantastic performance dollar for dollar.

It's all about price to performance. The 970 FTW is on par with the stock 780 ti (just slightly less) and significant improvement over the 780. The 980 doesn't really give enough of a performance boost to most to make an extra $200 worth it. Now, I said most because most gamers are not on 4k monitors or have multiple high res monitors. With higher demands, that's where you'll run in to seeing that extra $200 as worth it.

completely agree with astacy12, it's just the better price/performance ratio card.
but still there is nothing wrong with going with the GTX 980.

Makes sense.  I do not do 4K gaming, but I do use multiple monitors.  All my monitors are 1440P.  However, I am moving towards the LG 34" 3440 x 1440P, so would you recommend the 980 SC or would the 970 FTW do justice?

Well depending on your budget and motherboard you could always get two gtx 970's, it wouldn't be a huge jump in cost from a single gtx 980, but it should have more performance then a single gtx 980. Low power use will help out in sli as well. Can't seem to find any solid benchmarks but something to think about.

In the end it boils down to how much you want to spend, like always.
