So I've been patiently waiting for the 900 series release in order to replace my GTX 460 1GB. Newegg showed the GTX970 SSC ACX 2.0 available and I pulled the trigger. Newegg had a $10 mark-up, but I didn't care, $369 to go from a 460 to a 970 SSC seemed like a good idea. Anyway, the pictures for the SSC show it needing 8+6 power, even though the specs say 6+6. It's the same way for the 970 SC ACX 2.0 (picture shows 8+6). And the 970 FTW pictures show 6+6. I'm assuming that someone just failed at photoshop, but I'm curious. Edit: figured I'd post pictures. You can see the model of each card in tiny print on the corner of the card.

Could you please comment on the loudness and temperature of the card? This comparison ( Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Review Roundup - Performance Analysis, from bit-tech.net) has made me a bit worried about the evga card, mainly because they make it sound as if the quality of the card components isn't as good as the other 2 brands. I have never had a bad experience with evga which is why I decided to get their SSC GTX970 AXC 2.0 from newegg. Could you also comment about the coil whine if any. Thanks. I'm also wondering if the card will come with a backplate included or if evga will send us early adopters free backplates when available.

It's actually quieter than my GTX 570 at idle and load. Idle temp 29*C, load temp while playing Diablo 3 was 41*C. Max temp while playing Metro Last Light was 71*C. I have not made any adjustments to the fan settings or anything.

Also from those pics it looks like the ftw has a bigger heat sink that sticks out farther

So which ACX 2.0 has now 6+8 pin connectors?

I'm interested in knowing this too, since I ordered the EVGA gtx 970 SSC version and that one seems to be the only one with this type of connector for some reason. Also, does anyone know why evga decided to put vertical fins on the FTW version only? The clocks on the SSC version are pretty similar to the FTW version and I wonder which configuration (horizontal fins vs vertical fins) provide better cooling. Some reviews even mention both cards having different heat pipe configurations and fan sizes. Also, both seem to have 1.215v+ Voltage BoostDouble BIOSAs indicated on the product site.

So far I think we're assuming that all EVGA 970 cards have 6+6 power, and that some intern at EVGA has gotten fired for being terrible at photoshop.

This seems to be the most likely scenario. However, I'm still extremely confused about EVGA deciding to use 2 completely different cooling designs (fins and heat pipes) on two cards that are almost exactly the same (GTX 970 SSC / FTW). I ordered the SSC since the FTW isn't available yet, so I would really like to know if the FTW design actually provides better cooling.

So can you confirm that all EVGA 970s are 6+6? And while you're here, will these come with backplates?

Yes, all are 6+6. Backplates are not included but will be made available for most models separately soon.
