Got my 970 as a Christmas gift and card has crashed multiple times between then and time of posting.  It completely loses connection to both monitors, but strangely sound still comes through.  Only a hard reset fixes it.  I stress tested it using the Unigine Heaven 4 benchmark and it crashed in a minute, albeit with sound still playing in the background.  Same thing happens in The Crew when maxed out, but its very sporadic and didn't happen one day but crashed twice the next.

Is anyone else having this issue?  If so, are there any fixes?

    8GB 1333mhz DDR3
    Driver 347.09

    Previous GPU: EVGA GTX 760

Played both The Crew and benchmarked Unigine just now with no crashes, only coil whine. Seems to be very choosy as to when it happens.

Do you have any GPU monitoring software running? (afterburner/percision). I would try uninstalling any GPU software, choose to not save any profile and do a custom driver reinstall. Only install physix and uncheck everything else, and put a check in perform clean installation. I have no experience w/ windows 10 release, so maybe someone will chime in who does.

Install a version of Windows 7, 8.1 or something that is not a preview version like Windows 10. Then check for crashes ....................sheesh

Sadly happened before I installed Precision X.  Hasn't crashed since this morning, so I'm holding onto hope.  I'm hoping that its software and I don't have to go through the hassle of an RMA.

I do not have the funds to buy a fully fledged copy of Windows 8/7 to try it on.  I have already run my previous card on 10 and encountered no issues at all which is why I'm asking here.

I have tried running some benchmarks on 10 and they either lock up or just wont work. It is an evaluation copy of windows with basically no support.  Your lucky if the nVidia control panel works most of the time. You do realize that when the evaluation is over the probability of you losing everything on your computer is very high..........

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely consider it.  All the benchmarks I ran on 10 on my 760 were higher than the ones I got on 8, only when I put a 970 in did it start going a bit haywire.  Maybe you're right.  I might downgrade to 8 and keep a separate, smaller partition for 10.  I don't mind losing data, I've been through the 8 alph, beta, consumer, 8.1 consumer and now 10 :P.  Everytime I have lost my data XD

Yes, I would honestly do this. I have the same issue with 7 vs 10, I have never went to 8 or even used it at all. I am trying 10 to get used to it before they basically force everyone out of 7. 10 runs (for me) everything more "efficiently" temps and such if that make any sense, but I do get lock ups and crashes, few and far between though.

Just a few things you might want to try out to see if it helps stop the crashes...

#1 Download MSI Afterburner and set your GPU's fan speed to max.
#2 Try downclocking the GPU, set both core & memory clocks to -105 then retest in heaven.

I've had some success with this solution but it's not really an option for me. You can't stay in the same room as the card when it runs at full speed it's louder than a jet plane.

If you've had success putting the fan speed to max then you need to boost the voltage on the GPU. Setting the fan speed to max increases the voltage to the card. You can unlock voltage control inside msi afterburner by click on settings and check marking "unlock voltage control" under the general tab.

NOTE: You shouldn't really have to do this though, it's really a workaround for the problem. I would suggest RMA'ing if you need to increase the voltage on the card to correct the problem.

Didn't crash at +10 core voltage and 45% fan speed. Guess it's RMA time.

So far I've run the games in Windows 8 compatibility mode, and touch wood, it hasn't crashed so far. What glitches used to break the system now just continue onwards. I'm calling Win 10 bug on my original problem. I'll update later if something happens.
