In fact, it's not just Alcohol 120%. Every utility, including Windows 7 built-in burning feature, fails to burn discs from my drive. I brought up Alcohol 120% in the subject header as this is my burning app of choice. Somehow I suspect that I may be in with some kind of BIOS or other conflict, but I'm flummoxed as to what might be the specific cause. Alcohol-soft's forums are a bit of a pain, but I have been in contact with the tech support and they were not very helpful.
When I originally had this problem, as I mentioned, Alcohol 120% failed to burn a disc, stating the drive is busy. I have two drives, and each is busy. They're the same brand (LG), and combo BluRay/DVD-R/CD-R drives, so suspecting they were not liking each other I tried unplugging one. The remaining drive still didn't burn, so I tried Windows 7 directly, and the drive would still not start the burn. Additionally, this gave error code 0xC0AA020D. I couldn't find much info on this other than, you guessed it, the drive isn't ready or able to be activated. So at this point I contacted Alcohol-Soft. They asked for a system report, which Alcohol 120% generated and sent, and from this, recommended that I change the Device Settings within the Alcohol 120% app from Default, to Windows ATAPI/SCSI Control Interface. This gave no change in results. Alcohol-Soft at this point recommended reinstalling Windows, which I couldn't do for some time. Last night, that time came.
After reinstalling Windows 7, I'm left at the same place I was previously. Nothing will burn in either of my drives, and this is despite each drive working properly in every other respect. Anything can be read, but nothing can be burned. What could I possibly be missing here? :(
