OK....that sounds very good!! You are certanly welcome, man.

Vcore temps in the low 70's under IBT load is perfectly normal....it is the upper 70's that you want to eliminate....however; your idle core temps should be down in the low to mid 30's optimally so, anything that you can do to accomplish that would be better for your chip. Hopefully you will be able to lower the vcore a few settings which will help. Keep taking it down 1 setting at a time and IBT it until you fail the test or get a BSOD....then go back up to the last one that worked and test it again just to be sure it passes again and that is where you'll want to run it. After you get that set then, try dropping your CPU FSB voltage down to 1.3v and see if it still passes IBT, that will also help. Once you determine where that needs to be you can do likewise with the SPP and MCP voltages individually...maybe each one of them can be lowered one knotch too.

EDIT: I really like running my system at my CPU-z Validation link settings but, that is just too hot for the warm weather (winter only) so, I know what you are experiencing. I have had to drop my OC back down to 1800MHz already. I cannot install an A/C in my computer room....thankfully, the computer room is a straight shot down a hallway from the air-conditioned living room so, I set a fan to help blow the cooler air down the hall. The biggest help is that at 1800MHz, my CPU only needs vcore set at 1.325v in the BIOS.....VDroop takes it down to 1.288v in Windows.

I assume that you want to run the PC using the max CPU multiplier (if heat is not an issue), so you won't want to lower the CPU voltage until you try it.

Well an update, using the same settings from post #30 y was able to pass 5@standard IBT, but it failed at 20@Maximum

According to what I see in your SS...the failure does not appear to be heat related....take vcore up 1 setting and retest.

ITB still failing at 20@Max
During the test on this screenshot Vcore is set on 1.41875 manually on BIOS, should i keep going higher?  I have read that the vcore limit for 45nm is 1.4v is safe for the cpu to keep going?

PhoenixBird... Not to to step on JefferyHam but you could have 1800 "hole" try rising your FSB to 1810 or 1820 and lower your vcore to 1.40.

There isn't any "toe steppin' on " Jim.

Intel says that the max "safe" voltage is 1.3625v (as seen in CPU-z, not what you have set in the BIOS due to VDroop) and it appears you have already gone beyond that.

What I would do at this point is reapply the settings that were successful for the 5 pass standard test and run those for awhile to see if you get a BSOD when performing your normal Windows activities. If all works well then, that is good.......if not, you may have to face the fact that you are not going to be able to run 8GB's of RAM and be happy with 4GB's.

I have tried that JeffreyHam, but i randomly get my apps to crash and CRC errors.

What if i return to 1333Mhz underclocking the memories? I could live with 2.6Ghz with 8GB of memory.

Hey Jeff i see that we are both online at this moment, i have been going back to the beggining of this post and re-testing everything from the start to see if i missed something

Currently im testing with Prime95 Small FTT test to see how much it takes before it goes boom! I have been reading all this week at work on this forums an older forums to get an idea of how tricky is the 790i i have found actually intesting the manipulation of GTL's to get stable oc's but it seems like kinda of "luck" to get it work properly since the 790i doesnt like manual settings on the GTLRef

I havent given up on getting something decent with this, im open to any ideas actually, what would you suggest?

Actually, I have not yet had to manually adjust the GTLVREF's to get any of my OC's to work correctly. After passing stability tests, I just manually set them to the same values that Auto assigns them.

You may want to consider updating your BIOS to the latest version....it could make a positive improvement.

EDIT:  http://cdn.evga.com/bios/NF79_P10.iso  Use this program (ImgBurn) to burn the iso file to a CD at the slowest speed available:
http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Go into BIOS and load Defaults.....then, reboot to the CD and the update will run.

Actually i was going to propose that since i saw that in P09 there is "memory improvements" according to the changelog.

I wil do that! lets pray for a smooth firmware upgrade.

PheoenixBird... If you update your bios you may want to thhink about trying your FSB to 1600 again... just a thought.

As im writing this from the very same computer, i think that the firmware upgrade was a total success :P

Now, from where should we start? From 1600Mhz or 1800Mhz?

I would start with the 1333MHz settings given above then, work your way up to 1800MHz.

Testing right now on 1333Mhz using settings from post #42 it passes memtest for 1 round, but it always shows 1~3 errors during Test 7 on the second pass.

Then you need to do some experimenting with the timings.....it is a trial and error process. Try 7-7-7-20-2t.....TRY 7-7-7-22.....Try 8-8-8-18.

Yeah....you must remember that the suggested settings we offer you (voltages and RAM Timings) are just that.....suggestions. You will need to experiment and test them to know exactly what your specific hardware can and cannot do.

Re:790i + 8GB Patriot Unstable need help! 2011/05/22 17:15:21 (permalink)
Still running tests, memtest takes about 4.30 hours to make 3 Passes wich i consider a good point, since it always fails on the 2nd pass.

BTW yesterday i left my PC overnight doing Prime95 Small FFT with no Errors so far using post #42 settings, i still need to tweak a bit the memories but so far this is the most stable config @1333

Well...at least it is stable at stock speed.

Re:790i + 8GB Patriot Unstable need help! 2011/06/15 13:30:03 (permalink)
just a few notes.

running 1T command rate is not really possible (per stability) with 4 stick setup.it likely will not even boot.
so memory setting of 2T Command Rate is a must for 4 stick setup.

also, tRFC: [Auto] 74 is not enough for 4 stick setup. I would try anywhere between 90 and 120 manually (e.g. in +10 increments) when running 4 sticks.

also, for some reason 790 chipset keep running tREF at default 7.7uS while all DDR3 sticks I've seen until today call for 7.8uS, so set this one manually too (7.8uS).

SPP voltage must be upped for running 4 sticks, 1.45V sounds like an overkill at stock clocks, but can help getting initial stability for sure. 1.35-1.40V should be more than enough at stock speeds or 1.45V up to 1700MHz (with 4 sticks) and SLI.

I can't see a point in running manual CPU voltage at stock clock? I'd leave it on auto, same as FSB and MCP.

memory voltage may need to be increased a little (1-2 notches) over factory settings.

similar rules apply to 1600MHz though all voltages are recommended to be OC'ed manually for more optimal values.

if all else fails, then try loosening primary memory timings from 7-7-7-20 to 8-8-8-24.
