Not gonna lie... I feel kinda burned.

Purchased 10 year warranty on a 780ti that has fan failures in 3 years... [Last time i will spend that much on warranty.]

I'm in an SLI configuration with an additional 780ti card [ASUS brand] and EVGA will send a 980 SC instead of 780ti since they don't have any stock on-hand. [My last mistake here too.]

Here's the thing, not only is my SLI config burned and DOOM4 /Rise of Tomb raider will basically run like trash on 1 card at my ultra-configs but, I recall warranty sending the same VALUE of card back if they didn't have the exact card in-stock?

I.e. 780ti SC for a 980ti SC... Not a 980SC... Now the rules have changed magically a year or 2 ago to make it purely performance and not value?!

I paid $740 + 10 year warranty making it an $800 value card for a crappy 980SC $499 card?

My investment was worthless.

Thanks guys --

Value is not discussed in the warranty anywhere. You can easily read that for yourself in the warranty section.

Your sli config isn't burned, you just have to let them know and they will replace your other card so you can get back into sli.

The 980 has more VRam and also carries your 10 year warranty. Bet your glad you paid for it since your card could have been out of warranty and you wouldn't have any card at all.

The 980 has about the same performance as the 780ti,except you get more VRam, less power consumption, and smoother game play.

Submit a support ticket to let them know you had sli and need the second card compatible.

I can't have them replace the other card.

0. They already knew from my ticket details that I had an unbranded SLI configuration.

1. My 2nd card is 780ti card [ASUS brand]... SLI is broken. [I was told it needs to be another EVGA brand... Which sucks.]

2. My only option would be to wait for some magical stock which could take months or longer.

3. Because of the unknown wait-time, I had asked the cool- chat engineer to push the RMA forward for further processing... Waiting a week without playing is painful enough =(

I can't find any info on warranty replacement replacing the same grade of device if no-longer in stock as the warranty terms magically changed 2014! I certainly recall a written explanation saying something along the lines of replacing a card UP of the next equivalent type.

I spoke to a cool-headed tech over *chat* and they explained warranty at this time is based upon performance... Basically, because of my unique predicament, this is working against me, for the avid gamer who spent damn near 1000 on a freaking card.

Having Run 2-way SLI with both of these EVGA setups:

780Ti Kingpin and 980 SC that the 980 SC is a better SLI set and uses less energy

With so many jumping to Pascal; you could pickup another Ti for a lot less than the retail price

I see your upset, I understand your point.

Do you really think Asus would offer 2 New 980Ti if their GPU died ?

I can tell you it is like pulling teeth to get Asus to honor their warranty in my person experience dealing with them and it took MONTHs to get it.

Wait for a repair on your 780Ti ? or buy a second 980 SC seems to be the best choice for you.

Not EVGA's fault your second GPU is another Brand ---> if it was EVGA Brand this would have been avoided

Cool is correct, you can find the 780ti for signifactly lower prices, or even another EVGA 980 for really low prices, now that pascal is out. Even the 980 ti is only selling for 400 used now days

I understand the frustration that the 780ti you have is Asus though. I didn't realize that at first, and yes, it would need to be evga to be an even upgrade.

1. I don't expect EVGA to replace 2 cards. Not EVGA's responsibility. [Although, if they had some sort of PCB trade-in for other brands, THAT'd be awesome!]
2. I expect EVGA to replace a similar value card with a similar value if they don't have stock of the said original card. [A Ti for Ti as they used to do.]
3. Prices are all over the place right now... 1070's are the same price as 980ti's...
4. I see an EVGA brand 980ti [classified] for $389.99 on newegg... This is so borked...?!?!

5. Yet, vanilla and gtx 980's are $415 and above on Newegg right-now? Why are prices soooo messed up man?!?!?!

This is just not in my favor man.

6. Evga, which I appreciate, already processed my 980 SC... No turning back now... I will just buy another 980 SC or vanilla for SLI =(

All good... Thanks for reading and hearing me rant... Just unlucky this time around.

1. At least I did learn my warranty carries onto my replacement card... Didn't know that till I read your comment. I guess my 10 year warranty isn't a complete waste.

Something about 2 GPU sli is just so-cool... Maybe its a techy fetish but I don't ever want to be without 2 cards even tho all games /apps don't support'em!

I was totally unaware of the extended warranty program. I'm glad I came into this thread. $30 for 5 years is much better than that crappy extended offered from Newegg via AIG. This is why I keep coming back to EVGA for my gaming rig's GPUs.
Now, to sit patiently and wait for my 1080FTW to arrive.

My 2-way 980 SC with 4GB RAM out powered my 2-way 780 Ti Kingpins with 3 GB RAM

So you would not be down grading if you buy a second 980 SC.  The extra RAM and lower Watts is nice

I may List one in the EVGA Marketplace in the next week or two - working on my next upgrade & waiting for delivery

The GTX 980 is upwards of 20% faster than a GTX 780Ti depending on the game. I would suggest selling your other GTX 780Ti and pick up another GTX 980... I've found more than a few GTX 980's on my local craigslist for $250.

Here is a review that shows more recent performance differences between the GTX 980 and the GTX 780Ti.
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1060_gaming_x_3gb_review,18.html

The GTX 980 used to be very close in performance to the GTX 780Ti, but drivers have increased performance on the GTX 980 quite a bit since release.

Just seeing this response... Sorry

Yea -- I just bought a 1070 SC, lol... What a mess, but I am happy I did.

Although I won't be using my 980 SC replacement anymore, it WAS cool to see how incredibly efficient and fast it was although slightly slower than my 780ti sli build...

Time to buy another 1070 SC 2 weeks from now...
