actually they were ok, the memory controller at that time was still on the 780i SPP (north bridge chip ) but couls act up if you had the wrong strap ratio. Did you make any changes before this happened or using any overclocking settings.

    no I never overclocked it

I had a little time to work on it yesterday    this is what I have done

    swapped power supplies
I had a old 9800 gt video card   tried that
re installed the memory one stick at a time   I have 8gb corsair cm2x2048-6400c5    2gb modules
    re seated all wiring
pulled the cmos battery for 5 min

it is only doing coming out of sleep mode          can anyone think of anything else i should try

I'm a little confused because first you said it reboots and then you said it only happens when coming out of sleep..One thing that's very import on those boards is to manually (as opposed to Auto settings) set the RAM speed, timing and voltage to the correct Corsair specs in the BIOS, so do that now..You check the sticker on the RAM for the specs too..If you don't manually set the RAM, it will default to JEDEC specs programmed into the SPD chip in the RAM which often times causes problems, especially with the RAM voltage being set too low..If you need help with that, just say.

List all your other hardware and OS and what mobo BIOS version you have too.

when a pc comes out of sleep mode    it should go to the desktop  and you should be able to resume whatever you were doing from there    but mine goes to black screen and goes through the whole posting process again     just like you are rebooting your pc        it did it just now again   it does not lock up so I can see any code on the lcd display on the board

Gotcha..Unlink the memory from the FSB and set the RAM speed, timing and voltage manually in BIOS to Corsair specs and roll from there..To see the BIOS version, hit the Pause/Break key at the first POST screen to stop POST so you can read the Release Number, the last part of which is the BIOS version (P10, P08, P07, etc.)..Press any key to resume booting normally..What CPU you have?

OK..Please do update to BIOS version P10 (the latest) from the EVGA Download Center for the 132-CK-NF78 780i SLI mobo which has many fixes since P06..Then set your RAM manually
and other necessary settings that may be needed such at Boot Device and whatnot.

You're welcome..If you have issues with the CD burning software listed on the BIOS update page or in Windows or otherwise, as some folks do, ImgBurn has proven to win where others fail..Just a tip..Good luck.

A Q6600 is a nice old CPU, by the way..I had one (G0 stepping) overclocked to 3.6GHz in my old EVGA 790i FTW
