I can't seem to get all 4 cores running on a QX6850 in Windows 7 with my old 680i SLI mobo.

The 680i P33 bios recognizes all 4 cores.
Windows device manager lists all 4 cores.
But the performance tab in windows task manager shows only 2, as well as core temp 1.0 Rc6, etc..

An older post stated the following:

"the old AR board had a problem with quads at a FSB of 1333MHz or higher.  For the QX6850 and all 4 cores enabled you''ll need to go in the BIOS and change your multiplier and FSB.
You can probably go one of 2 ways, Change the FSB to 1092 and the CPU multiplier to 11. Or possibly you could even get away with just changing the FSB to 1332 without changing the multiplier. Both of those will give you mighty close to the stock 3.0GHz you have now.
The 1092 and CPU multi to 11 will give you leeway to overclock some though if you have that in mind. Hopefully up to about 3.6GHz with the 11 multiplier and up to 1332 on the FSB if you'd ever want to do that."

My board's PN ends with C00 so i tried the above with no luck.
I wish i could PM "Diff_1" but i am not allowed to PM until i make at least 10 forum posts as i am new here.
Please help..

Welcome to the forums..Sounds like you had a Dual-Core and then put in a Quad-Core processor?

You could go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> System Configuration -> Boot tab -> Advanced options and uncheck Number of processors if it's checked, then reboot..If it's not checked, check it and set Number of processors to 4, reboot.

You could try clearing CMOS using this second method.

You could go to Device Manager -> Processors and delete all the cores and reboot..Windows will reinstall the cores.

You could try EasyBCD -> Advanced Settings -> Developer tab and set Windows CPU/core limit to 4, reboot.

Those are the most common things to try, but in the end your issue is normally always solved by resetting BIOS defaults/clearing CMOS and doing an in-place upgrade/repair installation (or ultimately, a clean installation) when nothing else works..See Using the Upgrade installation option or How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7.

Thanks Bob!  Your first recommendation in Administrative Tools worked perfectly!!
I had already reset the BIOS and cleared CMOS, but I would never have thought of looking in the "Boot Tab" under "Advanced options".
Thanks again!!    And yes i did have a Dual-Core before this upgrade...

You're welcome..Glad it turned out to be one of the more common fixes when changing from a Dual-Core to a Quad-Core processor (as I suspected) and not a repair or clean install.

Thanks for the BR R.J.
