The Volts are at 1.65. Im afraid to go any higher since its been said that it could cause damage to the memory or motherboard.

No, that would most likely cause damage to the CPU or memory but not the motherboard.  Odds are the CPU would be damaged first.

Why do I see no BIOS template posted?  Please post up your BIOS template.  Often these sorts of problems can be resolved by adjusting votlages; primarily CPU VTT.

Another thing you need to check is the CPU socket and CPU installation.  Often these problems can be resolved simply by removing the CPU and reinstalling it.  If one of the pins in the socket just isn't conacting the pad on the CPU correctly, it can cause one of your memory slots to not function properly.

Also, if you have your CPU cooler screwed down too tight, it can also cause issues with contact between the socket and the CPU.  This is because if the cooler is screwed down too tight, it causes the motherboard to warp a bit and then all the pins may not make contact with the CPU any more.

Just some suggestions.  All of these things have worked for others in the past for the same issue.

I think we need to start the troubleshooting process over though and not go on such a wild goose chase as this thread is headed.  You really need to post a BIOS template to start working with.

what are you on about everything you just suggested hes already been suggested and hes already tried it bar one, the securing the CPU cooler too tight.

k i will leave it to the man, going to be funny if he just works his way back to either a faulty DIMM slot or Faulty Memory Controller.

He may work back to a faulty memory controller or faulty DIMM slot, but who knows.  At least we can get some organised evidence and advice instead of just throwing things at the problem.

How many times have you seen this same issue resolve itself simply by removing and reinstalling the CPU?  I have seen it many times.  He hasn't tried that yet either.  He hasn't inspected the CPU socket for damage either.  Etc.

Reply from OP Post number 18 in this thread

I've already tried reseating the CPU. That didnt seem to work either, and the board did not look warped in any way, so i doubt that is the issue.
BUT I have thought about the CPU VTT, but im not sure what to set it to, I believe I've tried +200 already but that didn't seem to work either.

Ok man take it away, aslong as the Op gets help thats the main thing but dont be surprised if he gets a little miffed at you asking to repeat things hes already tried and i hope your not suggesting i was just throwing things at him, i came in after a few people had tried to help him, since he was still having the issue i read the other replies and went from there.  I wasnt just blindly suggesting things and if you do mean the others in this thread and not me then you really need to check your attitude, the people here are not paid experts, the knowledgeable people cant cover everything so others try to help, it may not be the best advice in world but there is no need to chastise them for it unless its something that will cause damage or make the problem worse or just downright silly.  if you feel its going nowhere just politely ask the OP to do what you would like him to do without having a dig at those who have tried to help before you.

Cool it.

This thread is all yours.  I don't know why you are getting defensive.  I was merely suggesting things to try in the order in which I would try them as well as suggesting that we should start with a BIOS template for a more organised and structured troubleshooting process.

I was reading a lot of "yeah I think I tried that already" or "I don't think that made a difference" sort of responses and was really confused by the lack of concrete testing and results.

"CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ( 120 ) "
Is that a typo?  I don't believe CPU host frequency is allowed to go below 133MHz; at least not with my board and my CPU.  I would definately leave that at 133MHz if not alread there.

Assuming CPU Host Frequency is set at 133MHz:
"Memory Frequency ( Auto  ) "
Change that to ( 2:12, 1600MHz).

"CPU VTT Voltage ( Auto ) "
Try upping that to +150mv.

"QPI PLL VCore ( 1.425 )"
Try lowering that to 1.2v.  1.425v is awfully high.

"IOH VCore ( Auto )"
Try raising that to 1.2v.

That's where I would start.

From there, I would remove the CPU cooler and the CPU and inspect the CPU socket pins for damage.  Also look at the back of the CPU for debris, signs of corrosion or arcing, and that all the contact point on the back of the CPU have little dimple marks on them on each pad.  If some pads don't have dimple marks on them or the dimple marks are on the very edge of the pad on the back of the CPU, this means that pad is not making good/proper contact with the CPU socket pin.

Example:

A bad motherboard DIMM slot is possible, but not as likely as bad contact between the CPU and the CPU socket or a defective CPU memory controller hub.

Oops that was a typo. sorry. The CPU Host Frequency was meant to be 133 and the QPI PLL VCore was meant to be Auto..

With the Memory Frequency, if it is set to ( 2:12 1600 Mhz) The System doesnt Boot.

I will try what you suggested and post again.

Either go back to your previos bios or install 44 bios. 43 may be your problem.

Is 44 any better than 43? might be an idea for him to flash to one of the earlier BIOS's? S22D works fine?

Some have found a little better memory support with 44. I myself would go back tho to what I know  works.

Interesting on mem support. I'm still at the BIOS (10/30/09) that came with my E760 and chugging along @ 3.6GHz amidst stress testing. I like to be current with BIOSs and want to update but not sure if I should right now.

I had that same issue on beta Bios 43. I'd suggest going to bios 44, or bump back to S22D.

I was going to flash to 44 but i read there are still issues with memory and no one could confirm if "Turbo performance" is still over-volting the CPU vCore by 0.1v, i did make EVGA aware of that issue but i don know if they took any notice of it.  these CPU's are designed to use a +2 bin on 1 or 2 cores with the stock voltage so i dont see where there is a need for a 0.1v overvolt when using Turbo mode as all it does is make the +2 bin activate more.

They were aware of that issue with 43 Beta. So obviously they paid it no mind.

I have not flashed 44 so i dont know, soon as i read that there were still memory issues i didnt bother trying it.  Thanks for letting me know though that issue is still in 44.

Re:6 GB Installed (3.99 GB usable) Win 7 x64 Mem Issues 2010/03/21 23:56:51 (permalink)
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I had the same issue with Windows 7 64 bit showing 6 GB RAM (3.9 usable) in BIOS 44 on my X58 SLI LE and found a solution for my situation.

Short version: I have BIOS 44. Under Power management there is a "new" entry called "HTEP Support" and "HTEP Mode". HTEP Support was set to Enabled by default and HTEP Mode was set to 32 bit. Changed HTEP Mode to 64 bit and that fixed my problem.

Long version:
I built this computer about a month ago (My first build :D) When I first got it up and running it showed all 6 GB of RAM. Shortly thereafter I flashed to the most recent available BIOS. I didnt bother checking the RAM at the time, but within a couple days I found I had a bad stick of RAM I had to RMA. Flash forward 2 weeks later and I get everything up and running again and realize I havent actually checked to see how much RAM windows registers. (I guess I was just happy I wasnt getting memory errors and crashes every hour or so like before)

So today I check to see and find out Windows recognizes 6GB (3GB usable). After scouring the internets and trying much of what was suggested here, I decided to reset CMOS and set up my bios to get my RAM running at the proper settings. I had the manual that came with my Mobo just to read through all the different options to see if I was missing something.

Once I get to Power management and look over the setting there, I see something called HTEP Support & HTEP Mode that arent listed in the manual. I figure this must be something introduced in the newer version of the bios. By default HTEP Support was set to Enabled and HTEP mode was set to 32 bit, and the second option was 64 bit. I changed it to 64 bit, crossed my fingers, set up my ram timings, said a prayer, saved and exited the bios and booted windows. I have task manager set to load at boot up, and immediately saw total 6135 total physical memory instead of the 4077 (or whatever) it was runnign at before. Confirmed it on the system page and again with the resource moniter to be certian.

Hope this helped someone!

Usually this problem is caused by 1 of 3 things. 1 is MSConfig has been set with mem use amount at some point. This can be found under Boot/Advanced Options.

The second is caused from the cpu seating. You can tell this is the problem by looking in the bios under Standard Settings. You'll find it showing 4gig instead of 6gig. Also having the heat sink tightened to tight can cause same affect.

Third is memory speed/timings/voltage settings along with vtt. If speed and or timings are to high or to tight this can show up as dropped memory. Also vtt being set to low to properly drive imc for memory can exhibit same way.

What if its none of those as is my case?

Then its either bad ram or a bad board or a bad processor, correct?

ShockTheMonky

Open MSConfig and see what it shows under Boot/Advanced Options/Maximum Memory.

I know what you are thinking, Max Memory is NOT checked. i said that earlier i think.

Check it, and reboot.
Then uncheck it and reboot again.

i believe it was .i ended up using 4 gigs only whilst waiting for my corsair to arrive but it also wouldn't run @1600 like its supposed to even though it passed test after test.
Every game would crash unless i put the ram back to 1066 speed and settings.
My corsair stuff arrived yesterday afternoon,6gigs shown as normal, speeds @1603 (cpu @3.2) passed linx and bfbc2 was problem free.
Ocz @1600 on bfbc2 would crash and blue screen me every other hour even after passing linx unless it was running at stock speeds.
tbh i think ocz gold should be taken off of the compatabiity list for the evga x58 after reading these forums and seeing so many people with the same problems on the same ram.

My dads build was fixed finally with the replacement of his MB (SLI LE). It was something on the MB,  not ram, CPU, PSU, Windows settings.
