The title pretty much says it all.

We are talking raw stats here, cash no object etc.

Ofcourse budget wise is also nice to hear about, and if its a complete waste of cash for only gaming. But I am mostly curious about which one is the lead when it comes to pure gaming
and such. - Please stay within the X99 category.

I searched around the forums but never found the answer. But so faar, 5930k seemse like to be the best choice.

Both budget/value wise and for handling gaming.

What do you guys think?

Are you strictly using it for Gaming? or are you planning on doing other tasks such as rendering, 3D modeling, video editing etc...

The 5820k would be best budget/performance wise. If it'll allow you to spend more on a gpu I'd go with that.

In pure gaming, a 5930k vs 5960x will not be very different. Most games will perform the same.

In a heavy cpu bound game that can actually use all eight cores, there will be a slight difference but nothing major.

    You can also overclock them.

Then Compare is between the i7-5930K vs i7-5960X for gaming not the i7-5820K.
The i7-5820K CPU is only 28 Lanes to the other Two CPUs are 40 Lanes.

The 5930k is a good choice, don't think you can go wrong with it. I went with 5930k because of the price when compared to the 5960x. Also I was able to overclock the 5930k to 4.1 GHz using 1.190 voltage in bios (1.203 in cpu-z) with ram at 2666 MHz using XMP1.

If "cash no object", then why are you even asking?. Answer is obvious. 5960X.

If cash is no object then get the 5960x.  Even if games won't necessarily use the cores yet, DX12 and windows 10 are right around the corner.  I went from my 3770k to the 5820k, and right now the 2 games I have been playing are using all 6 cores/12 threads. (BF4, Dying Light)  You will already be ahead in the game and have your 40 pcie lanes, which if your only running 2 cards don't really matter.  As time continues and newer games are released they will be able to take advantage of the cores.  Also running a high refresh rate like 144Hz you need more CPU power to process the frames.

5820k 4.7Ghz, 16GB Crucial 2400Mhz, EVGA X99 FTW, EVGA 1300 G2 PSU, GTX 770 MSI Lightning (SLI), Corsair H110i GT, Phanteks Enthoo Pro case

Well if I want the 5960x.

I need to drop my AX1200i and go down to 1000W gold version, my Blueray drive. Going from 1TB SSD to 500GB. Aswell drop wireless internet card.

I would recommend processor depend of graphic card number you plan to use.
If you plan single graphic than really is question only between 5820K and 5960X...
You will pay lot more for 2 cores more if you don't have some good offer for that processor.
Difference will not be visible in gaming and every day usage.

Than maybe is better 5930k. That processor is for me waste of money somehow.
Only if someone have 3-4 graphics but no money for 5960X.
You say if you choose some cheaper PSU than you can buy 5960X?
You don't need more than 1000W... and you can choose something else...
Example for 195$ after rebate EVGA 1000 P2
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438013&cm_re=evga_1000_p2-_-17-438-013-_-Product

I would pull on every side to cover 5960X instead 5930K.
But maybe you have other plans. It's much easier after 4-5 months to choose better HDD or other things...first most important parts.

Do you have graphic cards or plan to choose something...???
If you didn't choose cards ... this model is best non Classified GTX980 on market...

    EVGA GTX980 FTW ACX 2.0
    http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-2986-KR

Card have so high clock that ASUS Strix GTX980 boost clock is same as base clock on GTX980 FTW.
That mean 1000+ Graphics points more in Firestrike Performance than ASUS GTX980 Strix and price is same 580$.
And many other cards no reinforcement baseplate as ACX 2.0 models, because of that VRM is hot even on Maxwell when temps are low.
I think GTX980 FTW boost on about 1400-1410MHz in games. Other good options is always nice reference Superclocked but she is 20-30$ more.

I have the 5820k, my buddy bought the 5930k, clock for clock no difference, If you are only running 2 GPU's you will get 1 @ x16 and 1 @ x8, which if you research will make no difference. now running 3 or 4 gpu's Obviously the 5930k.  Then you have more budget for other stuff.

In other words. It is not wise of me to spend money on a 5960x that don't gain me any quaility in gaming over the 5930k.

Right now, we are talking about gaming in focus and only that. And if it would give me somthing at all to go with the 5960x. Else I rather spend
my money on a better SD, Wireless, Better PSU and blueray. Stuff I will actually use. :)

I just wanted in the beginning to catch the grasp of the two's difference before putting value into the game.

Only real difference would be games dependent on cache, as the 5960X has more of that. The six cores might actually be better due to a higher expected overclock.

However, if money was truly no object I'd be rocking 8 cores just because.

I went with the 5960x only because star citizen will support as many cores as you give them. I would think most games that only program for 1 to 4 cores will benefit from the hight clock 5930k.

Both of these Intel CPUs are good. The more expensive CPU should be used when you need to use that maximum amount of cores. If you have a 24/7 folding rig then that is what I would choose. However if you just into gaming even with all of the eye candy turned on then the i7-5930K is more than enough.

A 5930K is pretty awesome for me.

    Computer Specs:
    Asus X99 Deluxe
Intel Core i7-5930K with Noctua NH-U12P-SE2

I'm attempting to build a high end rig with either the 5960x or 5930k as well. I'm going in with 2 cards in SLI but may add a third depending on the MB I end up with. After looking at the info online for weeks, I'm leaning towards the 5960x.
    -Cache
-Both CPUs have the same OC sweet spot at @4.2-4.4
-Extra cores add a bit of future-proofing

Thanks for the feedback so faar. Leaning towards 5930k atm still.

Are there more people who like to comment on this?

My 1st x99 build, went with 5930.....no need to double the price for the 5960,there is no double the price....double the fun.5930 for all your gaming needs if you go x99.

Well, here is the problem. Reviewers don't use current generation video cards when they are comparing the i7 5960X to all other CPU's with a pair of GTX 770's in SLI that is close to the performance of a single GTX 980. If you were to pair it with something like quad SLI GTX Titan X's and run it at surround 4K, the difference would be very obvious. That is... if money is no problem as the original post stated.

^^^ Yeah, that's more or less the plan. Starting with 2 of the Titan X superclocked, maybe going to 3 depending on the result. Got the cards already but am stuck on the board and CPU. Looking at the Rampage V or the Sabertooth x99. I'm going to OC the cpu but not so hard that I'm sure the Rampage will be necessary.

Yes but If you stay on same architecture 2-3 years, Intel 6 core, little OC, you will need best possible VRM.
Sabertooth X99 is without thermal shield or how they call... completely other board.
I think for anything longer than 2-3 years Rampage 5 is best choice... Today people still use X58 platform on good motherboards.
I will not pay for U3.1 Port Card package, but normal Rampage 5 is maybe best choice now.
