Certainly better than Tiger Direct. They wouldn't even list them as open box. They'd just restock on the shelf as new.

I've learned my lesson with Best Buy and their open box stuff before.  I had bought a sound bar from them years ago open box and when I got it home what was in the box wasn't even close to the outside of the box.  I immediately brought it back to the store within 30 minutes and had quite the argument with their customer service.  You can often negotiate the open-box price on their items but I make them open it in the store before I leave.  Not worth taking a chance with their "tiered" return policy or with them using TRE for returns tracking and blacklisting.  Amazon Warehouse Deals is awesome though (for the most part).

I do disagree with some of the stuff said in that article though.  I know full well that open-box at many stores is either a return or display item...  You've got to be wise enough to judge what "wear and tear" would really mean from display models.  When buying I take that into account and base my decision based on the savings amount.  Usually I need to see 25% or more off of the price to consider it.  I just got a display model car CD player from them open-box that was 60% off the best price I could get it elsewhere.  I've still got an old 73" Mitsubishi DLP TV that's around 10 years old which was bought as a display model and was dirt cheap as well as my current 4K TV that was around 50% off.

Aside from needing some cable right then and there or some super special in store deal, I don't even know why Best Buy is still around.

Because now they will price match places like Amazon, Newegg, Crutchfield, etc...

Cool but would still rather shop from the comforts of home. That was a smart move on their part.

And I would rather see the product in person and walk out of the store with it today if I like it (particularly if it's a big ticket item). I buy almost everything online, but there are times when I love a good ol' brick & mortar store.

I buy open box stuff on Amazon frequently. Never been let down by that, but it helps that they have descriptions of the condition too.

Best-Buy is a very special place. You really do have to be careful with them, especially if you're actually buying brand new. They don't care who you are, they don't care what you have, or what it is you need. They're only there to sell you the product, and get you to buy their warranty. It's all a numbers game to them. If you don't buy the warranty, they won't sell you the TV; it's "out of stock" at that point.

If you're going to remove legitimate posts that are simply basic observations of shady behavior on the forum, the least you could do is explain in a PM why it was removed.

I like to walk into a brick and mortar to see an item (especially big-ticket) before buying it online...  Also I don't get charged tax from Amazon and we have 7% sales tax here which adds up quick on a TV or something big.  I just bought a SiriusXM tuner for my car stereo last weekend.  $79.99 at BB and $30.24 on Amazon - they price matched it but weren't happy about it.  Just goes to show how much markup they have on this stuff.  No different that auto parts stores vs online.

This isn't the only link you've posted with referral links

Referral URLs fall under post for personal gain, which a forum guideline exists for. If it's a true issue, the best method to deal with it is to contact management. Posting about it here does nothing.

Open box sales are a risk so you have to ask yourself if the risk warrants the purchase.

Never did a best buy open box, did a Fry's open box item once, it was an ECS Nforce3-A 754 board back in 2006 to replace my blown 754 board. Biggest waste of money ever
