Hmmm wonder if my 9650 can do 5...

Probably not on water. Sandy Bridge is the only real shot at 5Ghz stable.

My 960 can do 4.8 bench stable though.. On water. But I'd need subzero to get the 5500Mhz it once did on LN2.

I could get my Q9650 to 4.3 or something like that.. I think 5ghz is unreachable on that cpu, sorry..

oh at the moment u wrote that you didn't even know my batch.. but in post #2 u can see my batch! :)..

i tell u it is good! :).. i am at 5.1 ghz (been at 5.2 ghz) and havn't even changed my pll voltage yet! :).. i put it back to std and i am still good! :)..

but i found out that 5.1 is the limit for my CPU cooling device! :)..
my cpu can to go higher but my cooling ain't happy
guess i should be happy that i am at 5.1 stable, without any cooling problems (86 degrees max at linx runs.. !

should see how far i can get it to boot.. i can easily go 5.2, had it bootable but can't go linx, cause my temps are in 89'ish area.. don't dare to go higher! :(.. have to exchange my thermal paste i guess.. and put my computer closer to the window! ;).. (cold outside at the moment, like 10 degrees celcius! :)

very very nice! :P.. though u not run linx, i think i can get mine bootable up there too! :P..

Btw, 1.6 volts?`:O.. aren't the cpu damaged up there ? :(... i don't dare to go up that high! :P..

u know overclocking better than me, a mate whom have been in here longer than me told me u are a good overclocker! :)

i was talking about my batch being best out of the the 4 exchanges
the last time i  called my bank infront of them and i asked them to challenge the charge. and the manager was like okay fine ONE LAST TIME.

only if INTEL FTW  version existed hhaha
i mean my temps are in the 60's running LinX but in Los Angeles gets hot hopefully the new H100 from corsair does a phenomenal job then i will beat your clock speeds

cheers

Not sure if you were referring to my 960 or the Q9650?

If you meant the 9650, then 4.3 isn't bad, it's fun to look through the old submissions on HWbot and see the LN2 speeds on the Core 2 Quads at around 5.1-5.4Ghz.

If you meant my 960, then it can definitely do 5Ghz. It'd probably need to be on a phase change or a cascade to run linx, but the previous owner got it to 5500Mhz bench stable before his board died. So that's why I say it can definitely do 5.

nice.. i am pretty happy with my batch..! :).. i will look forward to the H100 benching! :).. if that is MUCH better, i would buy it just for the sake of it! :).. then i know i can reach higher clocks! :)..

it is the Power that i am worried about.. just the 1.5 is worrying me like hell, that is way above what the old cpu's (quadcores) would need to overclock! :(..

i am at 1.48 for my 5.1 Ghz Stable!!! for me that is high,, but the only experience i got with overclock is pretty much this motherboard (had a little overclock [i had a q6600 running 2.8 instead of 2.4] with my old LGA 775)..

so for me breaching the 5 ghz wall and even get 5.1 stable is like

but still i am sitting here thinking i want more, more, more!! more ghz, more power, more speed!!!

I meant that my own CPU, Q9650, can't get to 5ghz with my cooling equipment..

the 5.5 was for cupid validation only , linX will not run at that voltage at that clock, more vcore required for that...
for short periods of time I don't mind the vcore so much as I watch my temps, they dictate how far I will go more so than vcore...
I can run both vantage and 3d mark 11 at 5.4 without any problems at all, neither puts much of a load on the cpu,
Just as side note, have the chip on a Heatkiller Rev 3.0 now, load temps are very nice but I am surprised by how well the corsair H70 did for me. At idle I am now at 28-29-29-30 with vcore at 1.392, clocked at 4.8 mhz, my 24/7 settings. On the H70 the idle temps were only 3-5' higher, and under load it fell off a little more but still dam impressive in my view for what it is

so you could pretty much go as far as 1.7 vcore without dmg, if u got the right cooling?..

seems like high voltage though :P.. i can do 5.2 ghz on 1.5 volts vcore, but i when i turned on linx and hit the 90 degrees barrier (i told myself i wouldn't go above 89 degrees) i downclocked, was a little afraid of the high voltage too though! :(

i noticed when i hit 5.0 i needed a lot of extra voltage to go to 5.1, and a lot more to go to 5.2..
down at 4.5 and 4.8 i only notched up my vcore twice to get stable!!

i totaly understand dude OC is pretty addictive and now days you dont need a fancy 200-300 motherboard to get nice OC results. I am worried about thoese voltages because its 32 nm
the smaller things get the more fragile they become.

i had my e6600 dual core from 2.4 ghz to 3.75 i bumped the voltage from 1.35 default to 1.375 lolz! the highest EVGA board let me go
surprisingly its alive today after 3 years of that on air cooling

P.S. if you wake up tomamrow and see your cooler is hanging outside and your cpu bracket is empty DO NOT come after me

a difference to consider is that you have the 2500k, which does not utilize HT, I will most surely always need more vcore to be stable at similar clock with HT enabled

lololol!
i guess mine isn't that special! :P.. can't be :P.. i just ordered one and mounted it :P.. didn't do research first to see batches.. didn't really consider that important at the time i ordered it , since i thought "i will never overclock more than 4.2 which the bord do at auto settings"
hehe! :P.. all of the 2500k could get 4.2 :P

yea okay! :).. but again, but it was about the voltage :).. how far can u go with voltage until the cpu get damaged? :).. just for knowing .. i know my cooler will properly set the limitations right now.. :) i saw u with 1.6 volts for 5.5 ghz, at that voltage with watercooling could that be a 24/7 running computer? :)

a 980x i know will easily do 5 ghz! ;) almost as easy as these sandy bridge cpu's!! :)

nice bug! XD..
cause that is indeed a bug.. that rated FSB can't go so high with any motherboard! XD

No bug mate people get much higher FSB than this, It's an easy task to get that out of an E8400 core 2..

No bug mate people get much higher FSB than this, It's an easy task to get that out of an E8400 core 2..

i rest my case.. bug! ^^
i think that is a bug!.. like the one i linked right in the last post too!

Here's my entry
i used intel burntest cause linX wasnt doing anything. But from what ive read they are the same with a different GUI so hopefully this counts. I made 20 passes on the high setting.

edit 2: New image with the core speed still at 5.0

edit: just saw that cpu-z is showing the idle speed since it finished the runs.

sorry i hope you can make another screenshot.. can't see anywhere that it goes 5ghz! :(.. except u wrote it :).. do another run! hope u can! :).. if u can u are on the list ! ;).. (it is about 15 min of linx) :).. i know it is terrible wait time! :)
just take a screen right before it finishes! :).. or use something (i used superpi) to hold up the clockspeed efter the linx test :)..

post a screenpic like i did on the first post! :).. you can use intel burn test instead of linx , but you still need those other things that is required ;)..

Now you're good to go

If you want your rig listed in your signature, you can do that by clicking here

and then click

Now you just have to list your rig, and then click

I hope that helps, if you need any help, feel free to send me a PM. (just click here to send PM)
