I'm in process of acquiring a rather large server. How would this fair for folding? Specs: DL580-G7 4 x INTEL 10-Core E7-4870 (2.40GHz/10-core/30MB/130W) Processor 256GB PC3-10600R DIMMs (DDR3-1333) 64 DIMM slots with 8GB REG ECC MEMORY INSTALLED HP Smart Array P410i/512 MB FBWC Controller HP NC375i Integrated Quad Port Gigabit Server Adapter Integrated ATI ES1000 with 64MB embedded video SDRAM Expansion Slots: 9 total slots: (3) x8 PCI-Express; (4) x4 PCI-Express; (2) PCI-X (100MHz) Quad AC power supplies

It would've been a beast if bigadv wu's were still around and it would still give some nice numbers with smp but right now a single 980 ti or similar would blow it out of the water while using a heck of a lot less power.
IMO, I would use the cpu's for crunching projects like Skynet POGS, World Community Grid or Citizen Science Grid and use the gpu/'s (if you intend to install any) in the system for folding.

I have the DL580 G5 with 16 threads @2.93Ghz, folding PPD was poor about 75k , so I crunch with it instead.

I have to say that 4P 40/80 core threads will make one heck of a cruncher.
Maybe you can throw a few cores at primegrid during the challenges.
That system will kick but.

Thank you bud. The company that had it in their environment only temporarily and had 1 bad processor. They didn't want to take any chances so they kind of gave it to me per say. HP warrantied the processor and I had already replaced it without issues. This was a once in a life time type of thing. Should have it by the 20th once they have verified all data removed.

I try and visit when I can. Lurk mostly. Just so busy with my job and resetting up my servers and switches at home. Consumes a lot of my time. Our company has grown so much is just the span of 1yr its crazy. Never a dull moment. lol

Back in the old Bigadv days there was some work done with E7 processors and their performance was found to be underwhelming, something to do with the memory transfer speeds. Patriot and a few of the [H] guys played with one for a few days. If I can find the thread i'll post a link
