Anyone using a 4k TV as a monitor? Been thinking about replacing my three old 24 gateway monitors for a 40-50" 4k monitor. Would be using it mostly for four Windows side by side etc. I mostly use my computer now days for web development. I really like the idea of this, less power consumption, possibly less strain on the eyes and neck from looking side to side all day. Would also use it for media/gaming etc. My main concern is how text will appear, huge, tiny, fuzzy, etc. What are your thoughts, experience, opinion. Budget 4-500... Fred Meyer had an open box m50-c1 for $511 Walmart has a new sharp 43" for $399.

Personally I'm very hesitant to use any TV for displaying stand still imagery for a long period of time, but that's just me. I'm sure technology has changed to where TVs now days can handle it just fine. If the picture comes out clear, though, and renders perfectly, why not? More power to you. The only thing you can do is try it and see if you like it.

TVs and monitors display the picture through effective the same types of LCD panel, though sometimes for maximum brightness TVs will have the pixels arranged a little differently. Where they really differ in the picture processing where TVs tend to try to look more to impressive than accurate. I personally use a ASUS ProArt monitor and a Vizio TV and I have calibrated them to match, and the Vizio works great for gaming, but I would not use it as my main monitor. As rule of thumb I usually say if you are sitting 6 feet or more away from the display then use a TV if you are sitting 6 feet or closer, use a monitor.

Don't do it! I'm on a 55" Sharp 4K tv and the input lag is atrocious. If you do decide to get it, Do some research! I jumped on it and there's nothing I can do about it now =/

I use a m43-c1 on my rig. To get 4k@60 you need to make sure you have a high speed HDMI cable and your video card is capable of HDMI 2.0. It'll only do 4k@60 into HDMI port 5. The problem with the m43-c1 is that at 4k@60 the color space is 4:2:0. Reds look a mess if you look for it -- especially red colored text. Other than that, I have no issue with the m43-c1. been using it since Christmas. There are better 4k@60 options out there that can actually do 4k@60 with better color space, but the price point is nice. Vizio has a game mode that turns off much of the signal processing. There is no latency issue with the Vizio panels. Also the thin bezel on these TVs are sexy IMHO. On the other hand, I don't think I'd recommend the 50" version of the set. The 43" overwhelms my desktop. Jumping up to 50" would only make things worse in my opinion.

I bought a $75 HDMI cable made for 4K and also changed a bunch of settings, TV and video card, It lowered the input lag by like 75% and it tracks the mouse better now, but not like on a monitor.

On a Vizio, setting "Picture Mode" to "Computer" then going into "More Picture" and selecting "Game Low Latency" setting turns off all that signal processing nonsense.

Thanks for the info Brad! Yea I am thinking 40-43" will be best. Now to find a 4:4:4 at a decent price.

If someone made a 32" 4k@60 4:4:4 for sub-$500, I'd be all over it in a second. The problem with the 32-38" range of TVs is manufacturers relegate that size range to the crappiest entry level builds possible. I wish someone actually made something of quality in that range.

So I picked up a 43X830C today and so far liking it but I'm a bit confused. I have a GTX760 and have it hooked up via hdmi... Still trying to do more research, not sure if there is a specific HDMI port I should be using but I currently have it set to 3840x2160 60 but I thought that wouldn't work with a gtx760, so I ordered a club3d dp to hdmi 2.0. Anyway it appears to be working but I notice some things flicker when I scroll, and also my mouse seems to be fairly slow, the TV for some reason also won't act as my main monitor even though I have it set as the primary. Brad or anyone else have any suggestions as for settings or things to test. Just want to make sure I have it configured properly. http://imgur.com/nxJt2jAhttp://imgur.com/nxJt2jA

Guys what is better option... Using some monitor as ROG 34" Curved as monitor and TV or connect PC to some normal Samsung 42" 4K TV? I mean such TV is almost half price of monitor. No G-SYNC and such options but's it's bigger and 4K resolution is fine.

I ended up selling this TV, it was an awesome TV but it was just way too big for my viewing distance. I work from home and sit in front of it all day. Was constantly moving my head around because of the size.
I ended up getting a Samsung 34" curved monitor and love it, picture quality doesn't seem to be as good as the TV was, but I love the ultra wide, and also really like the slight curve. It just works and fits my daily work needs better then the TV did.

TV's make terrible computer displays. No gsync? No want.
Not my fault if you're offended.

Currently running a Samsung 55" 4k Curved off my 1080, I love it. I will say though, this probably isn't recommended for everyone. But, I'm weird and enjoy it. The biggest con is that at 4k the television is limited to 60Hz. And, the picture is huge so, depending on viewing distance, you may have to move your head. It's not for everyone and there are now some nice 144Hz UHD monitors available that would probably be better suited for most people. And, I've ran into a few HDMI EDID issues, they seem more prevalent between televisions and GPU parings compared to monitors and GPU parings. That said, everything looks vibrant and fantastic. I can be working on multiple things at once spread out across the 55" and not have to cross monitors.

Pixel size. Smaller is always better. If you can find a TV with very small pixels I don't see a problem but a lot of them have huge pixels compared to a high quality monitor.

60Hz is not problem for me, I used to play on max 60fps and I can't afford hardware for higher fps. Single graphic card struggle for 60fps with newest games. After 1-2 years they become playable for more fps. I thought to play games in living room from same distance as I watch TV. Now become popular mouse and keyboards with Bluetooth/ Wireless.
