You can order standoffs if you want and mount the MB to the shelves. i didn't do that yet but there is plenty of airflow the way i have it rigged.  I have a floor fan sucking air out of the back of the rack 2 fans in the top of the case blowing cool air in on the cpu's. I wish I would have went 10 u myself, I would have the ankle biter going too, but the G34 was an unexpected purchase.

12u should give you plenty of room.

"but the G34 was an unexpected purchase." As were both of mine, but this is then end as they say. I think I have enough standoffs to mount the MB. Bill

AB's rack is a great bit of kit, but for those of use with less money available there are other options Mine is like this:

I had all the bit hanging around with the exception of the stand off's I picked them up from ebay for a few bucks :)

johnerz do you have any bottom heat that you have to deal with?
On CPU Coolers the two that are close to each other I will set together with the air flow across the board and the rear two have the air flow go out the rear. Not sure if my top fans will pull or push, I will have to see. Thanks for photo, I was going to set this 4P on top of my 2P. I did go overboard.

BC - You are not catching me near fast enough.  I mean, just two days ago, it was like 1.8 weeks...and now you are down to 2.4 days?  I would have expected you to try harder!

Oh yeah - awesome job - can't wait to have you go smoking past.
I'm actually getting used to the taste of exhaust.  BadBertie is closing in fast too.

Parts are now coming in, I am having shipping problems with TigerDirect as this is now the 4 Day sense I ordered the Motherboard and it has not shipped yet.  Update: Motherboard & Memory will come in tomorrow and the fans today.
Here are some pictures.

Now to find some used rails somewhere.
All the parts are now in and I have started putting it all together tonight. I was delayed setting up my Dark Titan today, Nice X79 Motherboard EVGA.

Nice photos,  I agree the Noctua's look great

Bill, my board is different than yours, so all the air flows from the front of the photos to the rear, what is not in that photo is the 2 X 140 fans that blow slightly down and below/into the Noctua's (recently I have also added a wooden case - just to keep the dust and stuff from the workshop off the rig - I should post new photos but it has yet to be varnished/treated so it is look very Ghetto lol)

On a side note, it would (finances permitting and they do not) allow me to stack a second rig on the top.

Scotty ([H]) has similar, "open" rigs and he has added this type of heatsink, as well as running the fans in front of the rig. They are on my "to do" list for the Autumn when I am going to break it all down and clean the CPU bases and try for a decent overclock, I expect they will then be needed lol

For the PSU, as long at it is single rail design, doesn't matter from where you take the third pin EPS connector, you can as well get it from a 6pin lead.

Where would I use them? On Top of the CPU Heat Sinks?

I have an AX 1200 that came with two 8 Pin CPU cables and I ordered the Corsair Cable kit for $40 to get the 3rd 8 Pin Cable. A fellow Folder said I should have asked on the their Forum for one and I wish I did to save the extra cost.

You could have got just that cable for 11 bucks. Also, i don't think you actually need the third CPU cable connected unless you are also running GPU's on it as well. Grandpa said this earlier in this thread. Here.

Ohh yea one other thing. After i seen your picture of your screen i decided to play around with the temp sensor app you are using and wanted to tell you .... if you keep that app up and running it adds nearly a full min per frame for my g34. so make sure you shut down that app when you are folding.

I ordered before Grandpa said that, then I found one from one of my other systems that only used one cable.
I blame in on the Folding Fever I had, glad that too is gone.
I only run the Temp Sensor App Running when needed and do not run it in the background.
Thanks, Bill

If you are using the [H] build by Musky, just let'er roll as is. all necessary tweaks should be done unless you plan to OC it.

Still having issues with the "[H] build by Musky Build".
Wanted to install an older version of Ubuntu but had issues with 64 cores, for some reason the OS would only see 48.
Still not sure witch way I will go with the OS and the FAH Client Version.
I have no plans to OC any of the AMD Ubuntu Builds. Thanks Bill

What does the BIOS say as far as cores go?  CPU count, because it looks to me like your missing a 16 core CPU somewhere.

The Bios shows 64 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Shows 64. But now I do not think I would have an issue.
Might even go with the Server Version of Ubuntu. Need some more time learning Unix or I should say Linux.

You don't gain anything by going server that you can't get by just turning off the GUI.

How do you turn On or Off the GUI?

Just curious but did you set the fah settings to 64 in the fah config. (-smp 64) If the bios and OS are seeing 64 cores then the problem is most likley in the fah config.

Press ctrl alt f1 to get to a text based console
Log in using your username and password you defined as you built the machine.

Now that you are logged into the console you want to to kill  xwindows.
From console you type:

sudo service lightdm stop

That will turn off the GUI.

If you want to turn it back on the command is:
sudo service lightdm start

Once you have the GUI shut down you start F@H the same way you would in the GUI.
from the command prompt

cd ~/fah
./fah6

In the learning of linux. the GUI is likely the best place to learn. Server is no gui at all and well, now your going old school. you would have a much harder learning curve to set your shares and acquiring your apps etc.
