Far from a Jesus card and was pretty surprised. With no overclocking. It hits 1379MHz max boost. That seems really low for a FTW edition card? I expected maybe in the 1400 range? I seen a SSC edition hitting 1404MHz max boost out of the box.

That sounds right without over clocking. It's really about the cuda cores though and you have a lot of those. According to Newegg, your boost clock is 1367mhz, so your actually doing more than what you should be. But the clock
Is what you should have and if you're expecting more than what the card is marketed for, then I'm not sure...

Yeah, one 13MHz increment above factory boost I would consider on the low end.

Of my two 970's, one boosts 26MHz over factory boost (low imo), the other boosts 65MHz over factory.  I consider that pretty good.  Luck of the draw I guess...

Someone asked if I tried maxing out power target and voltage. See if I get different results. I raised PT to max 110%. But, when I go to raise voltage even max in Precision. I get a warning about it could cause damage and cause the warranty to be voided?

1379MHz is above advertised. Nothing wrong there.

It's stating your card could fail outside of the vendors warranty period, not that your warranty will be void, adjustments inside precision are safe.

Oh okay I misunderstood it then. Okay. I raised PT to 110% and voltage to max. It now boosts to 1404MHz!!!! Now that makes me even more pleased and happy. BUT. Is it safe and okay to run it like that while gaming all the time? If so. I also would imagine. I would have to use an aggressive fan profile? I know EVGA has one preset for that in Precision.

It has a three year warranty, so to answer your question: The card is under warranty for a long time so it doesn't matter. But it would probably fail sooner and need a replacement after 4-5 years. But I would assume a 960 in three years with 4k and all is going to need to be upgraded anyways.

So, I think you're pretty safe as long as you accept that you may need to go through an RMA at some point and in three years you may need a new card. But like I said, your going to do those to replace your card anyways in three years so just enjoy it while you can.

Got ya. I understand now. But, like I said. Just got kinda freaked out about that warning. Is it uncommon for 900 series owners to raise their voltage to max?

I set my voltage to the max to test it out.  The gain was only 26MHz.  I decided the difference wasn't worth putting the extra volts through it.

Extra volts. Are all 900 cards like this and just designed that way by Nvidia? Is the card designed for those extra volts to allow it safely? Why would they allow you to enable it in Precision if it was bad? I would think you would need a bios mod to go further then what the card was designed for?

I'm not saying it's bad.  And I think if EVGA didn't think the voltage increase they allow through PrecX wasn't safe, they wouldn't allow it.  My point in post #9 is that I personally don't see any real world gain in gaming performance to max out the voltage for a 26MHz increase in core clock speed.

Question to avoid making another thread. The dual bios switch. The setting it is on. Is that kinda like the neutered mode? I was reading flipping the switch over to the performance bios might give bigger increases out of the gate with out overclocking? I don't see how so but just wondering? Apparently it also keeps the fans running constantly as well.

115% power limit and more aggressive fan profile. I had 2 of these before i opted for the 970.

Got it. Lowest ASIC ever? Does not suppose to mean any thing really though from what I hear.

So I got one for you guys. I was curious. Working on that 1404MHz stock boost. Only if I increase power target to 110% and instead of maxing voltage. I started from the bottom. Worked my way up testing max boost until I hit that magical stock number 1404MHz. It needs +31mV to hit that. I mean the gain is literally nothing just wanting to know more about this. Why EVGA would I guess cap it at 1379MHz max boost completely stock. With out adjusting power target and voltage. When it can actually boost to 1404MHz stock with power target increase and voltage? Possibly something to do with the 2 way bios? I am in "green" mode I suppose with the other being for performance?
