3D mark scores fall after overclocking

I am running 2 gtx 980 classys in sli. I can get over 6000 3D mark score on base clock and when I go to overclock my 3D mard score will drop down to the 4000's. I have the latest drivers and have tried MSI afterburner and precision x. Precision x doesn't drop my scores as much but still about 1000 score drop. What am I doing wrong or missing. I am still new to overclocking but had no issues with over clocking my old 770 sc

    Are your temps spiking causing the GPU's to throttle when your oc'ing?

    No the highest I had was mid 70's and I maxed the temp limit out on the oc bios. And I'm not at the computer right now so I can't remember what the max limit was I'm thinking 90

    What are your settings in precision and are you seeing screen artifacts?

    Currently
    Power target 125%
    GPU temp 90c
    GPU clock offset +100mhz
    Mem clock offset + 50mhz

    With no artifacts with oc scanner

    Well now I'm baffled.... I just did a 3D mark run just for kicks and I now have a better score by 400 points then my stock speeds. I didn't make any changes between today and yesterday...
