This are big pistols to carry....

Yeah, but you don't carry a DE.  You haul it around.

But having too choose between the two?  (not as a carry weapon), I would take the Desert Eagle. but then I would up it to a .44 Magnum.

Both guns wouldn't be that easy to conceal or pull out of a IWB holster. Any reason why you don't like striker fired pistols?

Like everyone said and I agree they are really big and heavy to carry. But hey if you can deal with the size and weight constraints enjoy it. But for which gun to choose I would say get them both. They are really cool guns to enjoy and certainly will get the job done for sure. Now when I set aside my love affair of guns and think logically about which gun to get, personally I would go with the S&W. First of course is because the S&W cost less. Second is that the rest of the money you can save from not buying the DE you can spend on ammo to go train and of course have fun. Third reason is that the S&W is a lot lighter and the overall length is shorter than the DE in which both of these factors will lead to easier carry. But if your recoil sensitive the DE will be a better choice do to it being heavier. Last but not the least reason is S&W has good customer service just in case if anything goes wrong. The Yankee Marshal (yeah I know weird name) actually recently done a video of S&W customer service. Like he said in his video you be the judge if they have good service or not.

By the way have you seen this DE .357? Its the L5 model which is 1 and half pounds lighter and more compacted than the DE .357 you have linked. This one will be a lot easier to carry as well.

I am a revolver fan.  I used to have a really nice .357 Mag revolver, blued with wood grips, that I sadly had to sell a few years ago and really regret it.

    In .357?

    Get a Chiappa Rhino.

In .44 or .50 AE? Get the Desert Eagle. A Deseret Eagle in .375 is weaksauce.

If you want a big stinking revolver to carry around you should get "The Judge" which can double as a home protection weapon :D

For C&C, the bigger .357's just a wee bit much. This DE L5 looks like a good blend for what Im wanting and still get the Ek = ½mv2; Ek(kinetic energy), barrel size and grain to accuracy Im wanting.

I love the Rhino. Maybe my most favorite revolver. Pretty cool how the barrel is on the bottom to help mitigate the recoil. Also like how flush the wheel is. But I assume he wants .357 instead of the other two calibers because ammo is cheaper than those two.

Im also looking at a Baby Eagle for a CCW weapon.  .45 is a consideration, but more likely .40 S&W.

Another thing to consider is, how easy is it to get parts, accessories or magazines for the gun.

    Re: .357 Magnum "Desert Eagle or S&W 686" ? 2016/10/31 03:42:46 (permalink)
Hey knight I also have this suggestion. Its the IWI Jericho.  This pistol is like if the Deseret Eagle and the CZ 75 had a baby. Cant go wrong with anything that has something similar with CZ. The Jericho comes in both polymer and steel so great option there.

But if you dont want that then just get a striker fire handgun I guess since you want to CC. Personally I like striker fire handguns more than hammer handguns for 4 reasons. 1. Striker fire handguns majority of the time are cheaper in price. That means you can spend the rest of the money on ammo. 2. Striker fire handguns are lighter which in terms more comfortable to CC. 3. Striker fire guns are MUCH more easier to do a FULL disassembly clean and less parts you have to worry about. 4. Lastly I like how striker fire handguns give you the option to change out the back straps to fit your hand better to operate the controls. But there are a very few exceptions of some hammer fired guns that allow you to change your back straps. For example the CZ p07 and the CZ p09 allow you to change your back straps. The p07 would be better to CC since its smaller. My buddy has the P09 and it really is a great gun to shoot. He modified the crap out of it to shoot like a competition gun now. His trigger pull is about 3 pounds now in single action. He also changed the trigger itself and the hammer and hammer/trigger springs. Not to forget he put if I recall Truglow fiber tritium sights on it. Quick note is the p07 and p09 allow you to swap the safety out for a decocker if your into that. I love the capacity the p09 gives you especially if you get a plus 2 base plates on your mags to make 21+1 rounds.

That IWI Jericho is essentially the same gun as the previously mentioned Magnum Research Baby Eagle.   Which is what many of us called the original Jericho back when it was only IWI making the Desert Eagles.

And where I like the .357's, feedback on .45's? And I dont need a 20round clip to hit my target, I only need one round for my shots kind of country boy .....

9mm is cheaper which for most people, means they can afford to practice shooting more. I would take as many round in my magazine that i can get, you never know how many threats you might face.  CC gun doubles as a home defense gun for some people.

Well what if you miss which will probably happen when your under stress/pressure and if your just not having a good day like if your sleepy or sick from having some kind of illness like the flu. More rounds means more shots to make up for your misses. Nothing wrong with that. Something to think about.

Anyways here is another suggestion since you seem to like .357 mag so much. I would prefer to have one of these instead of revolver in .357 mag with the exception of the Chippa Rhino. And if you dont like that then they have a .45 for you.

If I had one pistol to carry into the outback give me a revolver. I know I know C&C but drop em both in the dirt a few times shoot 300 rounds and call me in the morning. Maybe I'm just to old fashioned that way :/

With todays ballistics, you shouldn't ever need to conceal carry anything larger than a 9mm, anything more and you just like the notion of saying you have it... Plenty of ballistics lab research to back that up, FBI just went back to 9mm. You can buy striker fire weapons like Glock or the XD line from Springfield Armory (XDM 9mm 3.8" in a stealthgear Onyx for my EDC), but you can still find hammer type weapons beyond revolvers from SIG, HK, S&W, and CZ all have hammer type 9mm in their portfolios..

and .40S&W should be a deprecated round in 2016, it doesnt have the capacity of the 9mm, and it doesnt have the kinetic energy of the .45 - there really is no place for it this day and age, ballistics have come so far for the 9mm that it really has become the perfect self defense round in a public situation.
