It seems to me that we need to find a better month to do this challenge in the future. Too many other contests going this month. I think in the future we need much more lofty goals as well. 600,000,000 just isnt high enough per team. We will be finishing that half way though the month. To hit 5 Billion points this month we will need all the help we can get as some are leaving for other contests and the EVGA Bucks folders will stop folding as much during the second half of the month.

We could go for 6 billion - that would be an amazing accomplishment if we were able to achieve it this month.  But I don't know if we could do it...?

I do not think so, the crunching team has two other obligations this month.
There is a GPU Primegrid challenge which is GPU WUs. Starting very soon  the 18th to the 23rd. Five days with out a few heavy hitters.....I
And a WCG challenge, which is CPU work. Soon too, but that won't cut into folding too much.

Kind of why I was thinking January, when it is quiet and cold outside.
That gives us time to get the word out and make a go of it.
The Primegrid series is something the crunching teams puts our best effort into.

On the donation side. I was thinking maybe doing a few EVGA T-Shirts. Not sure the best way to do it.
Buy a few shipped to me, then I ship them out .Like I buy  m-L-XL-XXL then winners pick their size? What style?
Or I pay EVGA a deposit and let who ever wins order and EVGA ship to them. Way I think would be best.
Guess I can call EVGA during business hours and see what they would/ could do.
Any one know off hand how this was handled before?

I don't know if 6 billion is achievable, but realistically 5 billion is pretty much already in the bag.

The contest will end in 4-5 days...and yes some people will shut down or switch over to crunching but others will push on to try to set as high a mark as we can for the month.

Re: 2016 Time Zone Challenge 2016/11/06 16:09:57 (permalink)
Thinking out loud some food for thought.
Nov, has 30 days and is not very cold yet.
January has 31 days and is very cold.
Feb, has 28 days,  cold but shortest month of the year.

There is nothing wrong with folding as much as we can, I am just trying to be honest and open and realistic.

Pick a day before this TZ challenge ends and before the 18th and lets shatter a daily record.
Wed or Thurs may be good

This is true, we can do that. Sure we can come back to fold more after the PG challenge

But are we up for a January break the bank, heat your home challenge too?
I am in if we do, couple others a page or two ago said heck yeah.

Well, if I win one of those fancy 1070's I'll continue to help us get our goal. My 770 isn't doing too much but it's something.

I just lit the fire in my second pc's belly - Brought a 970 online to see what that does to my avgs. and to make up for the 2 hours downtime while I did the ModZoo hangout.

I just had to drop off for a few hours......
Got them thermal pads installed and better paste applied to my 1080 FTW.
I also swapped positions with the 1080 on the bottom.
Heres hoping my numbers go up a little.

I bet our month will be a great one despite. I am definitely in for January, if that's what we decide. I do think it's a good idea, since it gives a bit of time. Also, it should still be cool for our guys that worry about heat.

Re: 2016 Time Zone Challenge 2016/11/06 18:48:57 (permalink)
I am done.
Did make 1 mistake in the pad install. I removed to heatsink, replaced the paste and then put the heatsink back on with applying the pads. Then I installed the back pad and went back to fix my omission.
After testing my slot configuration , I found that putting in my standard 130% target unlinked from temp and a +100 clock yielded a 2025 clock with my card running around 60 degrees after some fantastic profile tweaking.
Then I checked my 970 which got swapped to a higher slot and adjusted the fan profile such that it runs in the high seventies.

On a side note, the 1089FTW maxes out at 2700rpm for the fans while the 970 hit 4000rpm.

@ ManFromRI, thanks for your donation and generosity. We have such a nice prize pool, not that's what the contest is about. It's about the science, comradery, and giving Drougnor "the business"....

looks like we'll be shy about 10-15 million ppd from the record we would like to set of 260 million ppd. i was able to grabbed two more 1070's for a few days to help us reach that goal. if you're holding back give it your all and then some, lets take that record back.
