Let's not discount the fact that  western CST and most of MST are mostly empty open space. And they are GORGEOUS for being so, don't get me wrong. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, I SO appreciate the need FOR that middle of nowhere to exist.

I am having a major issue.. My system LOVES to restart itself after a few days. I do not monitor the system except for an occasional glance to make sure it is still working. After a restart, I find that FAH refuses to start with the PC so the pc sits there idle waiting for me to open the program. I have out the program into the startup programs folder, I have reinstalled, nothing is working. I don't want to lose points or hurt the team when the pc decides to restart. There is nothing else installed on this system, it is just a folding machine and nothing else.

Windows 10. This issue doesn't occur on my main PC, just the folding pc.

Not sure if this applies to Windows 10, but have you looked into this?

Control panel->Power options and on the left side choices, click "Change what the power buttons do". On the new window, scroll down to "Shutdown settings" and you'll see an option "Turn on fast startup (recommended)". Uncheck this option and save changes. The next time you start windows, everything should starts as it is supposed to.

Remember that you will need to set the Folding Client to start with Windows and you will need to setup Auto Logon for that to work.
Or turn off logon altogether. Never did look at this on my 10 Rigs.

Funny that so many (recommended) Settings in Windows 10 are causing so many issues.
Maybe they should have said (Recommended for Mobile Devices) or change it altogether to Default.

My last test that I had updates that need a restart I had it set to the max 3 days and the computer restarted and Forced the Folding Client and the BOINC Client to crash as though the Power Plug was pulled.
I had to remove the Folding Client and reinstall it to get it back working, the BOINC Client only lost in work task.
So now I stop all projects on Tuesday Afternoon and run Windows Updates and restart the computer.
I am so glad that I do NOT have to do this on my Windows 7&8 Computers.
My Windows 8 is really Server 2012R2 based aliened with Windows 8.1

I have set the client to run on start up so many times that I am actually considering shutting the system down if it isn't going to function properly.

I also have windows set to login in with no password, as this is a folding only pc and doesn't get access to Chrome or any other Internet except to download fah updates

You can stop those win10 auto updates and restarts.
You can set win10 to notify you that there are updates available and ready to download, without it doing it auto.
Set you computer as if it were on a metered internet connection, even with an Ethernet connection.
Try this, it worked well for me.

On the NVIDIA Side Drivers Suck and next to imposable to Overclock the GPU under Linux OS.
From a Window Users Point. I do run one Ubuntu Rig but no longer Fold on it.
Back in the BigAdv Days that is what this 2P and 4P Rig was doing.

On linux mint Nvidia driver isnstall is just as easy as windows and any ppd gained from OCing the GPU is negated by changing to linux OS.

  • We've got almost 160 people signed up so far for this year's TZC!
  • The sign up period is ending soon!  6 more days to register before the official registration is over (you are subject to the whims of drougnor on last minute registrations).
  • Get out there and spread the word and invite someone to fold with us for the challenge!
  • A little over 7 days before we kickoff the challenge, start counting points, and obsessively refreshing the contest stats page...

You're welcome, the registry editor is the important part of to how to set the DL/install/reboot issue. "Set to metered IP connection" I edited the registry just like they said to. It works'
Meant to make it the 2nd link. There is that link in the main article. That's what worked for me anyway. I hated the reboot when ever they wanted to reboot my system.

As far as the Challenge, I am still trying to figure out what to do. Why haven't signed up yet.
I have to have a procedure done on Thursday and I am not sure how things are going to work out, if I can, I will. I want to....
