Not sure what you mean, does the throttling stop now that we are in the playoffs?

Dude, just run it full out anyway! Forget the throttling, because we're also trying to CRUSH the 1 Billion point barrier.

My current estimates have us posting around 1,250,000,000 for the month, but if we unleash the beasts, we should be able to get MUCH higher!!

  • The points have been reset and the first head to head round is underway!
    • FAHaholics Anonymous vs Insaniacs
    • Fast and Furious Folders vs Fanatical Folders
    • Protein Prophets vs FoldCo
    • F@Holding Pimps vs Crunching Tigers Folding Dragons
  • If any team has a folder that has stopped producing, please let me know via PM.
    • chris619 has been removed from the contest and his points replaced.
  • The round will end midnight (Eastern Time Zone) on Saturday 3/23/13.
  • We've put up some very impressive numbers so far in the first two weeks:
    • Hit a 40 million point day 4 times so far, with a highest day of 40,787,856.  Anyone want to go for 41?
    • Nearly 570 million points in the first 15 days, well on our way to 1 billion points.  If we keep pumping out those points, 1.1 billion is within our grasp, but I think 1.2 billion might be out of reach (although, I've said such things before and been proven wrong time and time again by the amazing efforts of this team).
    • Outproduced [H] by 40 million points so far in the month of March.    Can we make it to 100 million by the end of the month?
    • Around 40 more active folders than at our peak last month!  More than 140 more active folders than at our lowest point last month!
    • Wherever we end up at the end of the month...the work this team is doing is extremely impressive!    And at the end of the day we're all winning...
  • As always, please send along any suggestions or anything else you would like to see in the contest.

Just giving some feedback from a personal level. Nothing more...

This contest got my good vibes about our team going again. Here is why...

  1. No bickering.
  2. Multiple ways for those who want to compete, can. Regardless of the Contests design. Last year it was more "Take it or leave it" and many left...
  3. Nearly everyone is out producing "Without" QRB.
  4. The competitive fluids have been "Positive" in nature towards internal and external elements...

The results for me... I purchased two servers to add to the Fold "And" the Crunch that we do.

I do not care what the points those servers will produce when this is the attitude of our team. I do make it about the points when the team's attitude goes sour, as I need to internalize a way to still keep going.

Damn glad to have stuck through those hard times. Damn glad to know [H] is going back to 2nd place. This train is tuned, on the right track and roll'n...

Thank you!

P.S. Default just crapped it's pants...

Extremely happy that people are enjoying it.  Seeing our team have a bit of fun and bond, watching our production spike, seeing [H] slowly realize we're comin for 'em - that's what makes it all worthwhile.

After last year I wasn't sure the contest was worth continuing.  A part of that is certainly my fault.  I'm not infallible, but always strive to improve things.  I'd like to think the new points system has something to do with it (which has taken more than 2 years of development), but it could just be that everyone participating this year knows the ultimate reason why we are here and why we fold - to do science and cure diseases!

Either way, we're putting up incredibly impressive numbers, makin those WUs hurt, and takin it to [H].  Fold on!

+1000 to your summary AB.  This contest has been very enjoyable and our team is not in 1st place from the points perspective.  I gotta say, it is the spirit of the people having fun in this contest that is making it worthwhile.  I don't care who is leading or lagging when we're all having fun with each other this way.

Re:2013 Folding M@Dness Announcements 2013/03/16 10:16:58 (permalink)

Turning once again, and this time more generally, to the question of folding, I would observe that there has never been a period in all these long centuries of which we boast when an absolute guarantee against overtake, still less against serious raids, could have been given EVGA Folding. In the days of [H], of which I was speaking just now, the same wind which would have carried their rigs across the internet might have driven away the other folding teams. There was always the chance, and it is that chance which has excited and befouled the imaginations of many folding tyrants. Many are the tales that are told. We are assured that novel methods will be adopted, and when we see the originality of malice, the ingenuity of aggression, which our enemy displays, we may certainly prepare ourselves for every kind of novel stratagem and every kind of brutal and treacherous maneuver. I think that no idea is so outlandish that it should not be considered and viewed with a searching, but at the same time, I hope, with a steady eye. We must never forget the solid assurances of CPU power and those which belong to GPU power if it can be locally exercised.

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once more able to defend our team name, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of folding tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of EVGA Folding — every man of them. That is the will of EVGA and the folding nation. The team members of EVGA Folding and EVGA Crunching, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their folding of work units, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though large threads of the Forums and many old and famous help guides have fallen or may fall into the grip of the other folding teams and all the odious apparatus of tyrannical folder's rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in cyberspace, we shall fight on the CPU and GPU, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the QRB, we shall defend our team, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the -bigadv, we shall fight on the SMP, we shall fight in the GPU3 and in the GPU2, we shall fight in the uniprocessor; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this team or a large part of it were subjugated and starving of -bigadv WU's, then our allies of other teams, armed and guarded by the EVGA Folders, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the smaller folders, with all their computing power and might, step forth to the rescue and the liberation of the EVGA Folders.

I pretty much read all the info on the contest but don't recall anything about this 2nd part of the contest.
If this could be noted in the info for those of us that have never participated in this contest it'd be nice.
Sorry if I missed it some how, if so please look over this post.

Something folks voted on... AB had a thread in the sticky section.  I voted against this sort of thing  but as is always the case, the majority won.

The only reason why I haven't dropped out is two-fold.

1.  I signed up for this thing and even if they did change things around to include a second contest, I'm still willing to help albeit I do not at this point consider myself on a team or in the contest anymore.
2.  I'm willing to push for a billion just to see if the team can do it.

If it hadn't been for my above reasoning, I'd gladly shut down my rigs and get back to crunching where our team is falling behind.

I actually like this part of the contest more than the other and thought it was apart of it all along.
I've never been in this so its all new to me.
I had read the vote post AB made but still don't recall anything about this, but then again I didn't understand what was being said anyways.
It was pretty unclear what was being voted on for me. So I guess again it come down to if you've played or not as to know what some of this means.

I just got home and everything is down.
Looks like we had a power failure of a couple hours in duration.  Maybe the 14 inches of wet heavy snow had something to do with it. They said we were going to get 6.

No snow here, but its hot as hell. I been getting a lot of low PPD WU's to top the heat off.
At this point I'm glad I'm not getting the 762x GPU WU's, if I was I have to shut down the GPU's.
I've had to back off or shut down a couple rigs in the mid day heat as is. I'd run the AC but my power
bill is already going to be sky high as is.

Nothing about the contest has changed.  This was how the contest was set up from the beginning and always has been run in the past. I don't know why you think this was a change unless you never understood the contest format in the first place.

The results of the poll AB posted are simply the appearance of these pages: https://sites.google.com/...2013-team-overage-page and https://sites.google.com/...eam-free-for-all  These pages simply are additional stats for anyone that finds them interesting and neither of which has any bearing  on the outcome of the contest as it was originally designed.

Probably didn't understand them then... Sorry if I'm confused.  It happens when you get older.

Ah... found the problem, I look under rules for the rules of the contest.  I read them... what I missed is the contest format... which is different in my mind from the rules.  My bad.
